Jocelyn woke up with a start. She immediately noted that her mouth felt cottony. She scrambled to her feet, and headed for the door. Quickly, she made her way down the hall and to the kitchen. She glanced around, and began looking at the cabinets dumbfounded. She padded quickly back down the hall to Zac's room. She peeked inside, and seeing that the two unneeded brothers were snoozing like the babies they were, crept over to Zac. She gave him a quick, swift kick in the back.

"IIIIIIIIIIIIPE!" Zac began to shout, before Jocelyn slapped her hand over his mouth.

"Be quiet, turdmunch," she hissed. "Now get up. I need you to show me where your glasses are."

"But I don't wear glasses," Zac mumbled. Jocelyn gave him a look and stood up straight. Zac sighed, got to his feet, and walked to the door. Jocelyn followed him down the hall, close on his heels. In the kitchen, Zac absent-mindedly strolled to a cabinet and pulled down 2 glasses. He held one out to her, and told her, "Memorize this spot. Next time, I won't be so helpful."

Jocelyn took the glass and again trotted along behind Zac.

Jocelyn and Zac stood in front of the refridgerator, door wide open, gazing at the hypnotic contents. Mrs. Hanson stood for a moment in the middle of the kitchen, just watching.

Aloud, she asked, "Why on earth are you kids just standing there in front of the fridge staring with the door wide open…at," she looked at her watch, "2:37 in the morning?"

"Trying to find the little man that turns the light on inside," Zac said, turning around and grinning at her. Jocelyn slowly turned, cheeks flushed and smiling sheepishly.

Mrs. Hanson had her arms folded over her chest, and was tapping her foot. "Spill it, guys. What's up?"

"I just stayed the night, Mrs. Hanson," Jocelyn said. "My parents flew up this evening to see my grandmother in Iowa and won't be home until tomorrow and Josh is staying over at Max's, and I was over at a friend's and was supposed to make arrangements to stay the night but I forgot and her mom said no one could stay the night, and so I was gonna just go home but I forgot my key. So when they went to drop me off I told them I could get in the back door 'cos they never lock it, but it was locked and I didn't have anywhere to go so I came here. I rang the doorbell, but nobody answered it so I went and knocked on Zac's window and he let me in. You and Mr. Hanson had already gone to bed and I couldn't ask your permission, so I borrowed a t-shirt and some jogging pants and I crashed in the girls' room. I couldn't sleep so I went down here to get something to drink, but I didn't know where your glasses were so I went to wake up Zac and…"

By this point Jocelyn was hiccuping and talking hysterically. Her hands were flying everywhere. Zac suddenly grabbed one of her arms, grinning. His mother looked amused. Zac said, "Joce, chill, chill. She's not going to kill us…yet."

Jocelyn looked from Zac to his mother, eyes filling up with tears. Suddenly, she wailed, "I didn't know it would get us in trouble!!"

Mrs. Hanson cracked a smile, and Zac rolled his eyes. He looked at his mother. "She's just getting a drink. Don't keel over on us."

She shook her head. "You are two crazy kids," she commented. "GOOD crazy kids though."

Then she took a seat at the table. "But not good enough that I won't supervise your late night wanderings." Zac rolled his eyes at her insinuation and Jocelyn blushed. She waved toward the refrigerator. "Hurry up and get whatever it is you want to drink. You're letting all the cold air out of the fridge."

Jocelyn reached in and pulled out a carton of juice. She poured herself and Zac a glass. "Would you like a glass?" she asked.

"Nah," Mrs. Hanson said, shaking her head no. "Small bladder. I'd never get back to sleep."

Jocelyn grinned wryly, and put the juice back in the fridge. Zac and Jocelyn sat at the table on either side of Mrs. H and quickly finished off their juice. Then, they said good night, and headed their separate ways. Mrs. Hanson went and got their glasses out of the sink and put them in the dishwasher.

As she headed back to her own room, she said, "At least for now all they do is hang out…"
