Diana had had to call EVERYONE invited to the party to tell them to back up their plans to come over by an hour and a half. Why Isaac insisted on planning to go out on nights that SHE had something scheduled for him was beyond her. She wished Skye HAD opened her big mouth this time.

At 7:45, Mrs. Hanson signaled for everyone to get behind the furniture that was in the back den. She went up to the living room, and began to pretend that it was a normal night. She was waiting for Isaac and Jerry (who he promised to reveal to the family at dinner) to show up.

8 o'clock rolled around, and still no sign of the two. At 8:30, Skye came out of hiding for a minute. "They're getting restless, Mrs. H. Where are they?"

"I don't know," Mrs. Hanson said. "Ike said they'd be here by 8."

As if on cue, Isaac walked through the front door. Mrs. Hanson gave him a look. "Where were you?"

"Jerry had a bit of a...self conscious moment. She's just very worried that you won't like her," Isaac explained, glancing behind him.

"Well, where is she now?" Mrs. Hanson asked. Isaac talked softly to someone behind him.

A small, nervous face peered around the doorjamb. She smiled awkwardly at the young girl and older woman who were in the room. Cautiously, she stepped inside. Mrs. Hanson looked her up and down. Mrs. Hanson nearly fell out of her chair...
