The Show That Started It All

By now, you have probably read my
bio, but that's only half of the story. Now that you know how the show
came into being, you would probably like to know about the show itself.
History:
Chaos in a Box premiered on the last Thursday of January,
1996. The original time-slot was a not very promising Thursdays at 11.
This is not promising because, here in Camrose, Thursday is cheap booze
night, and my entire target audience is out at the bar. But, despite this
position, Chaos in a Box quickly rose to become one of the
number one programs on CLCR 101.5 cable FM. Was it my off-the-wall humor,
or unusual taste in music? Only my hair-dresser knows for sure. I was quickly
dubbed "an Augustana Institution" by an over-zealous fan. I became
the toast of 2nd East, my dorm at the time, and the season finale
in April '96 was a tearful one.
The return in October '96 was very promising. With a move to the much-better
Wednesdays at 9 time-slot, and a move to Moi Hall, it looked like me reign
was going to last forever. With a foot-hold on the ravine complex, my show
was introduced to a whole new audience that quickly embraced it. Under
the creative freedoms of manager Lowell Dahlman, it seemed as though all
was right with the show. The second season ended with a huge, two hour
special that was heard all over campus.
The third season, which started in October '97, is now referred to as
"The Dark Time." My target audience's interests had expanded,
and no one listened anymore. One month into her term, manager Kiersten
Hainstock fell ill, and nothing was getting done behind the scenes. Fellow
DJ's were quitting left and right, leaving me the entire station. The dire
times got to me, but, con sarn it, I kept doing the show. It even drove
me to do a fake election campaign at election time, just to remind people
that the station was still there. One DJ even said I was carrying the station
that year. But, I hung in there, and the season finale wasn't as tearful.
Now, in it's fourth season, things seem to be perking up. With a move
from 101.5 cable FM to 89.1 FM, and a name change from CLCR to Augustana
Interactive Radio, things are finally getting done again under the velvet
glove of Erik Bjorgan. The CD library is getting
organized,
making it easier to find stuff. And, I moved to the just a little later
time of Wednesdays at 10, just late enough for my audience to come back.
Things are once again perking up, as Chaos in a Box once again
dominated the airwaves!
Format:
Length: It's a one-hour weekly show.
Time: Wednesdays @ 10 pm
Frequency: 89.1 FM, in Camrose,
Alberta
Music: Whatever I feel like. Everything
from rap to film scores to rock to country, you name it, I play it.
Regular segments: What's Wrong
With Society This Week, my usual rant about what bug is up my butt
this week. The Final Thought, an inspirational quote to end the
show with. Oh, and since I worship "Weird Al" Yankovic as a God,
I must play at least one "Weird Al" song.
The Policy:
Ever since my first show, I've followed these simple guidelines:
1) I don't like to go past the end of time-slot. True, no one's on after
me, but I have a life outside of the show.
2) You can request songs, but it's doubtful I'll play them. That request
line: 679 - 1599
3) If I put you on the air, please don't swear. It f---king offends
me.
4) I refuse to play The Rankin Family (recently re-named The Rankins).
Face it, they suck.
