Despite watching this movie
almost a decade late, it did not seem a bit old at all. he action blockbuster
Bodyguard from Beijing starring Jet Li is not only a treat for fans but a
pleasing movie for females. It is not a typical Martial Arts Jet Li Movie but
more of a Chow Yun Fat's gun fare. Li's character is so consistently
stone-faced that his usual boyish charm is repressed, and the movie emphasizes
gunplay over acrobatic kung fu action, but there are still kicks galore and
the usual Hong Kong combination of spectacular violence and outrageous
sentimentality--all captured in stylish, glossy cinematography. This was
done particularly well by Corey Yuen and the casting of hot HK actress Christy
Chung and Martial Artist Ngai Sing - who is starring in the Matrix Sequels and
Kent Cheung providing some much needed comical relieve are all very well cast.
Although the romance between Chung and Li could have been more developed to
create more emotional, surprisingly Bodyguard From Beijing was a fun and cool
movie ride and experience especially the gun fare in the mall and the ultimate
showdown between Sing and Li was just exciting to watch. Not a MA Jet Li's
flick, but definitely worth a look for fans and Chow Yun Fat's fans as well -
to tell you that Li can hold a gun just as well.
