DISCLAIMER
This is the disclaimer for the story Hidden Agendas. It's kind of long and boring, so more power to ya if you can stand it and read it all.
We, as human beings, are inspired and have been since the day we were born. We learn and live our lives based on experience and inspiration from events and people in our lives.
The way we read and write is similar to this, also. If you like to read mystery novels, then you're going to like to write about mystery. Why? Because stories that you've liked have been a certain style, so you get inspired, take off with it, and make your own creation.
I read comic books.
So, as you can conclude, my stories will have a comic book flavor. When I get done reading a good comic, I ask myself "Why did I like it so much? What made this a good story?" And then I answer my questions and eventually, I twist and turn it into a story of my own. Sure, there are some similarities between Hidden Agendas and some comics I've read, but it's mostly mine.
For instance, the name Intergang came from Superman. Nick's alter ego is Tempest, who is a character from Teen Titans. (I chose Tempest because he used to be Aquaboy, and the Boys once called Nick that, so I just thought it would be a funny inside joke.) The beginning part of HA has Sapphire laying nearly dead in the snow and Nick finds her. I got this idea from an issue of Detective Comics where Batman finds Huntress the same way. If you read comics, you may think that I took the name "Sapphire" too. But actually, I came up with that name before this character came out in comics. It's just a really weird cowink-adink.
Does this make me a bad writer? I don't think so. Did you know not one of Shakespeare's plays was from an original idea? My stories are a lot more original that his. Not as good, but still.
I THINK THIS IS A GOOD THING. Currently, 96% of the people who have read HA have said that they like it so much they want to keep reading. So, I urge you, if you like this story, then try picking up a comic book, because this story was inspired by it. If it weren't for comics, I wouldn't be able to read very well, so they really are a great thing. If this story can make just one girl become an avid comic reader, then I've done my job.
