It happened so long ago, most would probably forget the details, however,
the details are so very clear in my mind. This is probably so, because it
was a frightful experience, and so it marked the beginning of "Freaky Events"
The year was 1989, it was spring, as a matter of fact it was my very
first spring break. I was staying down at my Grandma's for Easter and I
remember the wild flowers were in full bloom. Everything was so perfect
then.
There was Laurie Fulk, she was always a spirited young girl, especially
then. Her hair was brown, and long enough to reach half way down her back.
It was slightly wavy. Her eyes were green, and she wore glasses. She was
the kind of person that would do things her own way, no matter what someone
would tell her. This also got her in a lot of trouble, but just so, she
never really cared.
Tiffany Fulk was her sister. She was a smaller girl, and she was Three
years younger than Laurie. Tiffany had a dirty blond colored hair. Her
eye's were a light blue. She was skinny and her personality was different
from her sister Laurie. Tiffany was more of a diabolical girl, she always
had some kind of a plan. Opposed to Laurie, with her more caring attitude
toward us.
Then there was Jason. He was my cousin. In those days he was a little
on the chubby side. He also wore glasses. His hair was brown, sort of like
the color of chocolate. He was Two years older than me and Tiffany. Jason
was one to go along with Laurie. They made the perfect team. He was a funny
person who always made the rest of us laugh, he was also the kind of person
who would ditch us in the woods, to play some form of hide and seek.
My Grandma's house was in the woods. It was a nice sized home that fit
in perfectly with the surrounding woods. Laurie and Tiffany's home was right
across the road from my Grandma's. There house was kind of big, and it was
sort of frightening to me when I was younger.
My story begins on a wonderful spring day. We were playing in a section
of pine trees across the road from my grandma's house. We found an old doll
that was partially buried in the pine needles. The doll was old and it was
covered with muddy dirt, as if collected by time. Laurie picked it up and
brushed it off.
"This looks like some kind of a voodoo doll" Laurie commented.
Oddly, in those days were weren't smart enough to leave something like
that alone. We picked it up and took it into the woods across the road.
We had a section in the woods which was our "Indian village" We often played
Indians then. We had Teepees made from old dead sticks and small logs. We
each had our own teepee which we would play in. then in the center of our
"village" was a small circle of rocks which we made as our meeting place.
Well, to the point. We took the doll to our "village" and we decided to
pretend that it was a member of our tribe that died. So we buried it beneath
the circle of stones. Laurie decided to say some tribe words. She mumbled
some words she made up then we danced around the circle. We were just kids,
and there is no way we would do anything like that now.
At the time of our dance it was dusk, and as kids we were frightened of
the woods. We quickly ran back to my Grandma's house where we played video
games and watched television until 10:00pm. That was the time that Laurie
and Tiffany had to be home every night. However, that night Jason and myself
decided to stay at Laurie and Tiffany's house. We had fun playing Laurie and
Tiffany's brand new Nintendo. A game system which just came out. We all fell
asleep in the living room.
When we woke up the next morning. We all went over to My Grandma's house to
eat breakfast and play with the new kittens. However, on the walk across the
road we noticed something odd in My Grandma's yard. We walked over to see
what the object was, and to our horror, we could tell that it was they
mysterious voodoo doll.
We went into the woods to see if something had dug it out. Yet the rocks
were unmoved. The dirt was still the same as we left it. Even the flat
rocks that we made it's coffin out of were still in the same position, but
some how, the doll was gone.
