The Department for Safety and Security (DSS) is a department of the United Nations, dealing with the security and safety of its staff worldwide. It reports directly to the Secretary-General. Amongst other things, the Department responds to emergency situations and decides on security phases and establishes the mechanisms for the processing of security clearances.It is responsible for 145,000 staff and consultants.
Operations
Following an increase in insecurity in the Somali Region in 2007, this department carried out an assessment and advised restricting humanitarian operations, to those that are deemed essential, in Degehabur, Fik, and Warder.
