How to spot a Male Channeler
Sisters, while traveling through the lands that make up our fair world, you will eventually come across the Yellow Ajah's greatest challenge aside from death...a Male Channeler.
It is important that you be able to distingush these poor souls from the rest of mankind in order to aid them properly. How is one to tell a man who is, for lack of a better term, naturally insane as opposed to one that has been driven mad by the taint. In the more isolated regions of our world ignorance runs strong and deep, often these men have no idea themselves that they are able to seize sadin. That is until some eventual travesty occures.
Think on this, when I was a Novice I unwittingly tangeled my flows of fire and water while trying to light a candle. Horrible burns resulted from the explosion of super heated steam, and myself and Sheriam Sedai could have died from those wounds if it were not for the quick healing of Corele Sedai and Belle Sedai. And that was just from a common Novice mistake. These men in the depths of their maddness are as dangerous as a sword in the hands of a babe. Like a baby they often have no idea of the damage they can 'cause, for they are swadeled in the taint, unable to use their minds and hearts through its filth.
When you are called to the aid of a man with 'unknown' problems, look for these things.
a) Is he often seen appearing out of seemingly no where?
b) Has there been any mysterious happenings around him? Loved ones being healed, enemies dying of odd circumstances? The very weather around them acting in an unnatural manner.
c) Have they suffered from a strange and unknown fever that disappears as quickly as it came? Sisters we know this fever as we have all experienced it ourselves after our first sweet embrace.
d) Does he spontaniously shout things such as 'Horse' or does he lose control of himself and curtsey or do other odd actions(socials) at odd moments?
e) The taint effects different men in different ways, but some of the more common are:Partial blindness (type eq or look and can't see all the eq, sometimes you don't see everything in the room on the first try). Added strength in the One Power as madness grows (MC sp max increases as you taint more). As well as random fits of extreeme anger(randomly 'kill xxx'ing things).
Techniques for Treating Male Channelers
As long as the Yellow Ajah has been in existence we have saught a way to 'cure' the taint, and have been unsucessfull. We are healers to the core, and there is no greater challenge to us than to cleanse this vial curse of the Dark One, to heal our fathers, brothers, and loved ones of this horrible plight. The only known 'cure' of this malady is genteling, whose side effects are almost assuredly death through suicide.
Over the years much research has been put into trying to stave off the effects of the taint. I have compilied some of our information into the script below. However there is some information that is so dangerous that it can only be shown to full Sister's of the Tower, as the common man and woman could not comprehend its meaning.
If you suspect a man is a channeler but are unable to hold him to be stilled, or unsure if he is indeed one, here are some thing to tell him to aid him in staving off the taint.
1.Encourage the man to fight off the urge to seize until at least his 20th year(level). If he is to seize the source before this point he will almost assuredly get massive ammounts of taint in a relatively short ammount of time.
2. If a man is weak in will(less than 17 will) the effects of the taint will be swift and profound, there is not much you will be able to do to aid him my Sisters.
3. Try to explain to him that he should never use the source for more than is absolutely necessary(never go below good on sp's), to do so will allow the taint to rush into his soul and consume him.
4. If you are unable to form a circle of 13 to still him, encourage him to go to a stedding until the proper escort of Sister's can be brought. This is not a permenant solution as the call of sadin will eventually lure them from the stedding.
5. Explain to him that he must do everything possible to not embrace the source, that every time he does it will eat at the essence of him, bit by bit.
6. There are rummors of angreal's made during the war of power by the Aes Sedai to stave off the taint, twisted spirals of silver that form bracelets. Though I have never seen them, Verin assures me of their existence.
7.Research by the Yellow Ajah has proved that on only lightly tainted male channelers can use a tincture of forkroot to slow the taint to almost a standstill,
though the theory has never been tested on more heavily damaged men. There is however, hope for those MC's that have been stilled. They Yellow Ajah has the ways and means to remove the taint from stilled men, slowly and over time through healing sessions. In one young man by the name of Lufia the taint has been reduced through extreemly hard work by 60%.
Be strong my Sister's, do your best to help these poor creatures. And if they turn mad, do your duty and put them down as you would any rabid beast.
