The portrayal of Kali was surprisingly authentic, but much of the detail was lost in shadow. For this doll, I tried to stick to traditional depictions of the creator/destroyer Kali. She has a necklace of heads, a skirt of limbs, and is quite drenched in blood. If I really had time, I'd make a Shiva for her to stand on." :) © 2000 Joanna Bond |

She fell six feet during the Nisqually earthquake, but suffered not a bruise. It's that warrior's physique! This one is meant to be channeling the lightning. She glows in the dark!! She is made with real blackberry roots, glitter, paint, and paperclay. She stands by herself, and has no moving parts." © 2001 Joanna Bond |

Click here to see Jo's original picture | Xena de Milo This doll is from Jo's Homages to Artists Gallery, where she says "Xena was doing her usual war cry in battle, when she saw the light of peace, which came in the form of a bird. She dropped everything--her sword, chakram, and pretenses, and held her arms up to the light of the sun. Then the bad guys (probably the Romans) cut off her arms and the world froze, just like that, till the wrong could be right. No, really. This doll is detachable from her base. She is made from Clay, decoupage, found objects, paint and glitter and comes with chakram and sword." © 2000 Joanna Bond You can buy this doll for $100 |
