Xena Production Prototypes
I found a few photo's of several protoypes of actual production models and have included them here for your viewing pleasure. I don't know much about most of them though but if you do please email me with specifics. I have tried to give credit where I could but if I missed you out please send me your details.

PVC prototype Xena from the frontPVC prototype Xena from the back 4 inch PVC Xena
Here are front and back views of a partly painted plastic prototype of the 4 inch Xena figure we all know as PVC Xena. The production piece was once available from the Universal Studios Theme Park. With this prototype though, they have tested the paint colour on both her skirt, eyes and lips. The figure is made of rigid plastic and the left arm is moulded much closer to the body than the actual PVC Xena which you can read more about in the Miscellaneous section.

Xena 2 unpainted Xena II unpainted
This is an unpainted Xena II from the Hercules action figure line. Apparently the costume was made of rigid plastic and is unpainted also.

Xena 2 painted Xena II painted
This is another prototype of the Xena II except this time she's painted. Her head is different also in that she has light brown hair. Her bra has not been painted on yet either.

Sword Drawing and Huntress prototype Xena
This prototype was used for both the Sins of the Past figure and the Warrior Huntress figure. I'm not sure if she has a fully functioning karate chop or was just used as a costume test.

Please e-mail me with details if you own this figure.

Xena Resin 2UP
Xena Resin 2Up head
Xena Resin 2 Up
This is a Xena Prototype Resin 2UP Figure by Toy Biz based upon the Sins of the Past/Warrior Huntress figures. She stands 9.5 inches in height. Her body is permanently molded in a slightly crouched position. 3 points of articulation. Her body is unpainted and her arms as well as her hair are not attached to the figure in any way.

Her head is partially painted and has a pin that I'm guessing can be placed into the figures neck in order to be attached to the body.

Conqueror of Nations
(...No information available...)

Please e-mail me with details if you own this figure.

Xena Deluxe 10 inch Deluxe Xena
Her head, arms, lower legs, costumes and weapons all appear to be moulded in a yellow coloured plastic. Her upper legs and torso are moulded in black and everything has been placed in it's proper place inside the box.

2 up 2 up
This is what is known as a resin 2up head. She is the head used for the 5 inch Xena II Warrior Disguise released in the Hercules Legendary Journeys series. It is called a "2up" because it is made at exactly twice the scale of the production figure for maximum detail.

wax Wax
I has been said to me that this wax head is an unproduced Xena head that a sculptor at Toybiz apparantly created but was never used. Wax sculpts are the first stage of action figure production. I'm not sure which figure this head might have been used for but one theory put forth regarding this head is that it was a wax scupt done at 1:1 scale for the 10 inch Deluxe Xena.

Roman Xena 12 inch doll Roman Xena
This is a prototype of the 12" Roman Xena doll. She has a slightly different body than the production figure and the head is entirely different (head is more similar to early style Xena heads that Toybiz produced). She has a pair of black cloth underpants and white under-dress.

Gabrielle Resin 2UP Gabrielle Orphan of War 2 Up
This is a Gabrielle Prototype 2UP figure with a released production piece next to her for comparison. The prototype looks to be unpainted but as you can see all her extremities are not attached to her body. She looks to be fully articulated and has been designed to bend at both elbows, which is the one feature that is missing from the final production piece.

Please e-mail me with details if you own this figure.

Gabrielle Resin 2UP Grieving Gabrielle
Resin 2 Up
This is a Gabrielle Prototype Resin 2UP figure from the Xena line by Toy Biz. This Prototype has been professionally painted with the exception of her head and hair. She stand 10.5 inches in height. Her hands are loose and cannot be attatched as they don't have any pins or mechanisms to attach them to the figures arms. Her body's paintwork seems to be based upon the Bitter Suite figure while the head looks similar in sculpt to the Orphan of War figure.

Grieving Gabrielle Grieving Gabrielle
Prototype for the Grieving Gabrielle from Assortment 42020. I think she's pretty much unpainted and appears to be a more pinky colour in another photo I've seen of her, rather than the brown of this photo.

Young hope Young Hope
Half painted, half unpainted prototype of Young Hope from the Grieving Gabrielle two-pack in Assortment 42020.

Transformation Hope Transformation Hope
This looks like a final test shot of an unpainted transformation Hope (aka gooey gabby) from Assortment 42020.

Please e-mail me with details if you own this figure.

*
Goddess Callisto Callisto Goddess
Her head and legs seem to be constructed of clear plastic while her torso and arms look to be just regular solid colour plastic. Her halter top, skirt and knee pads have been glued on also.

Please e-mail me with details if you own this figure.
