Depeche Mode: Started off at school, orioginal memebers Martin Gore, Vince Clarke (yes, later of Erasure and Yazoo) and Andrew Fletcher. They recruited Dave Gahan (pronounced 'gone' if anyone cares) to be the singer, and then the music started. Synth pop, new romantics, electropop, whatever. Still great.
Band start off, Vince Clarke leaves just before the release of 'Just Can't Get Enough', Band get bigger, employ Alan Wilder, band make better (somewhat darker songs), band get REALLY REALLY big, band release 'Enjoy the Silence' (still Warner Bros. biggest selling twelve-inch ever), the Violator album, Dave Gahan starts taking heroin among all the rest of it, band still get bigger, 'Songs of Faith and Devotion', Alan Wilder leaves, Dave Gahan then overdoses twice, finally quit habit, band come back with 'Ultra', which I rather like, and this year the lovely 'Exciter'.
