Ideas and Purposes of William Blake

What was Blake's purpose? We really cannot be on-point exactly, but we can get an idea. Dozens of university-level professors have tried to decipher the code that Blake has written in. Are they all correct? Are they all wrong? Maybe in between? This page is written in the point of view from a college student. I am a student, that up to recent times, had no prior knowledge of this man (Blake). My views can be ripped apart by some, praised by others. Either way, Blake, is still working his magic. He is makng us all think. You will find that some of my judgements are pre-emptory and unjust due to lack of concrete evidence. I know this. But what evidence does Blake use when he wrote? He used his mind. That is what I am attempting to do. I will use textual evidence from Blake, often. I want to be able to be on the same wave-length as Blake. This will take lots of time. Till then, I will be just like the rest, a code-breaker.

Back to the question, Why? I feel that there are to many answers to this. One way to think about it is to not to think about it. Being that there is no one reason why he wrote like he did. This question always entagles my mind. When an assignment is due on a particular subject, the piece concentrates on that certain subject. If Blake wrote like this, how could this man be sane? Another way to look at this with an example of William Shakespeare is "Why did he write, The Tempest?" People for many years are still trying to figure this out. Was it about colonizing? The Indians? Rascism? Again, there are to many inconclusive answers. Why then do we devote ourselves to a pursuit on the unknown? We think we know, but we have no idea, possibly. I cannot stree possibly enough. Maybe ther is a person out there who know why Blake was who he was. I do not know of such a man. Dr. Thurber, of the University of San Diego, has awakened a person in me that I haven't seen in a while. This new found knowledge of Mr. William Blake has made me question many uncertainties. It has also left me open to ridicule and scrutiny by others who "know" what is truly meant by Blake's writings. I do not mind it. For the course I am currently enrolled in, as of 03 / 28 / 01, I will continue to go by the book, citing textual evidence to back up my claims. I do not however stand 100% by them. Maybe 95%, but that 5% will surely come back one day. When that will be, only God knows. (maybe Blake too?) For more info on William Blake, click Here.
