start Oh, So That's Why -- Chris || Post in the forum
line.jpg
So I have one computer here that runs Trillian, and all the others run AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) if needed.

I wondered, "Now why isn't this one working, and the rest are able to sign on?" I tried a few times, couldn't get it to connect, and then just forgot about it since it didn't have any effect on me. I check on Slash Dot (/.) yesterday and find out that AOL is bitching about Trillian using their service.

Trillian, Cerulean Studio's instant messaging application that allows people to chat with users of all major messaging systems through one interface, was working perfectly with AOL's Instant Messenger. Trillian users had no trouble sending messages to AIM users -- which was not the story earlier in the week, when AOL implemented a block that prevented Trillian from accessing its system.

That sparked a battle between the companies: Cerulean Studios issued frequent AOL-compatible updates to its software, and AOL worked to render those updates incompatible. It's unclear how long Trillian's current compatibility will last; AOL says that Trillian is "hacking" into its software, and the company is always working to prevent security breaches.

Now, let me go back in time a little when Microsoft was breaking out XP, and they weren't to sure that they wanted to let AOL's crap work with their Operating System. What happened? Oh, AOL went to daddy and cried foul, and then when it's their turn, they don't take any crap, and just put the smack down on them for messing with their stuff. So since they do this bickering about another's software messing with their stuff, do they expect the same in return from some of Cerulean Studios' sponsors? Probably.
