Do you like your computer that much that you would be willing to change the shell that it loads on startup? Well, I know I am. And that's exactly what I did these past two days. The first time that I tried it I got a nice little message that said that explorer.exe could not be found and Windows must be reinstalled. I think not. I just so happened to have messed up the line in the system.ini file that points it to the proper shell.
I'd say that Litestep is worth the download. You're not stuck with that same look of your desktop like you are now without it. Once you get it, you have a crap load of themes that you can choose that will change the look and the feel of the way your computer looks.
I myself am still looking for a good theme to get for it, so right now I am using the default Windows shell. If you share a computer and you get this, I am sure that the next person that goes to use the computer will get a big kick out of it since they will have to spend a few minutes to get used to where all of the icons went off to.
The hardest thing that you can do with this program (if you want to call it that) is getting it to use different themes. I do suppose as you get used to it you'll find it easier, but the first few days that you use it and want to change to a different theme that you downloaded, you'll spend a good 10 minutes with it. But trust me on that one, it is worth the time and bandwidth that you will use to download it. Besides, the files that you have to get to make it all come together are not that large in the first place.
And, if you are like me, you'll probably mess it up the first time. Don't worry if you get that message that says you must reinstall Windows. Just restart the computer, and when you’re booting up, keep hitting "F8" and get to a command prompt in DOS and change the system.ini file back to the normal shell:
cd\windows [hit return]
edit system.ini [hit return]
*change the "shell=" part back to "Explorer.exe" and then save it*
This is about the only thing that I could come up with after some long thinking. I didn't want to put anything more about Anthrax or something to that extent since I am sick of hearing about it on the news. So if this seems rather "forced", I think it probably was.
