square Virus, or Easy Installation? -- Chris || Post in the forum

which is worse for your computer, a virus, or a security hole in the programs that you are using?

The real danger, according to dozens of experts, is easy-to-install software and software vendors who focus too heavily on adding convenient features instead of solid security solutions into their applications.

So they're telling me that I don't have to worry about all of the viruses that go around the 'net on an hourly basis? Sure we do. Why wouldn't we? How about taking the time to see what you are installing and running at the same time. And also taking a few minutes a day to read up on some of the tech news? That's the best way to help against computer viruses, if you know what to look for, you're not going to have too much of a problem. Like if some guy that you don't know sends you a file and asks for your advice, then why are you going to open it? Most of that is pretty much self explanatory though.

"Software vendors' philosophy is that it is better to enable functions that are not needed than to make the user install additional functions when they are needed"

hmmm... sounds like what Real Player does with their free version that they have for you to download and use. They will ask you for your email address during the setup, and then after that you have about 5 pages of SPAM offers. And some of them are tricky too. They will have the ones at the top not checked, and then they have a scroll bar, and when you scroll down, then you have another 4 things that ARE checked. Cheap. So if you don't take the time to read all of that fine print, you're gonna be in trouble either with SPAM or about a million shortcuts on your desktop. Chances are that if you are using AOL, and you look at your desktop, I can almost bet you money that you have more than 5 icons there, some of which you don't even need.

This sounds familiar, Yahoo! Corp. is going to find new ways for making money. Apparently their current ads right now are not annoying us enough for us to click them, so they are not making enough money as they would like.

So this means that they are going to have to make some new ways to get some more money, or else they will have some problems of their own... like there is not one company right now that is not having any trouble?

We all know what that means right? If Yahoo! were to offer broadband access for people, it will make the other smaller compaines that have no where near as much money mad.

Ah, the joy of the heated computer world. But I doubt that is the least of our problems right now in our current state.

square Funny Thing Is... -- Chris || Post in the forum

Sure, even if Mr. Taliban gives up the Big O of the land, they are still going to get bombed. Think about what would happen if they just got O, and left without a fight. People would want to know what the heck went on there. After what they saw there, I can bet that a lot of Americans want to see something more done to them than just one of their "leaders" taken away from them. Plus, O is not the only one that can do these things. There are more than just one of them that masterminded all hell.

And the chances of them giving him over are slim since they want to talk it over, and the way that the reast of the "right world" sees it, it is "not negotiable". So I don't think they are going to get too far there

And Mr. Taliban bragging about Russia getting beaten there, again more than likely not gonna happen. It's a new game. New technolgy, and there is more than one nation involved in these military exercises that are going to take place soon.
