start Consumer Alert -- Chris || Post in the forum
line.jpg

Um... kinda like that. Not that I would have to worry about anything like this since I don't go around downloading anything that I see lying around on the net

Go find out how ad services are taking advantage of people who are not so computer savvy

Feel like online ads are getting more annoying? You're not alone. Consumer advocates are up in arms over adware--a new class of advertising products that typically install on your PC as part of a software download. Once it's there, adware does tricks like putting commercial links and ads on Web pages you visit--without the site's consent.

So lets say you start up Internet Explorer (Or Netscape, or the AOL browser *shudder*), their program will insert popups to the pages that you visit.

If you find yourself with this problem, you simply hit "ctrl + alt + delete" and look for something that is not supposed to be running. (That shouldn't be too hard if you don't have a billion programs that start when Windows starts) If you find something that should not be there, it's time to get rid of it. Simply do that by going to the Start Menu, Settings over to the Control Pannel, next to "Add/Remove Programs" and select the program that you don't want and hit "Add/Remove..." and that will do it for you. (assuming that you are using Windows, but if you are using Linux and you have Ad ware on your computer, there just may be a problem)

The one program that I know best that does this (or tries to) is the free version of RealPlayer. However, if you don't run through the setup process, you can avoid all of it. But I don't think many people do real all of the fine print nowadays.

Everyday I read about how spammers are getting to people. They don't seem to get the message that we (or at least most of us) don't want their pointless garbadge to our inboxes everyday - and sometimes more than once a day.
