square FTC shutters thousands of Web sites -- Chris || Post in the forum
line.jpg

If you read the title correctly, the FTC is starting to cut back on all of the stupid sites that you get when you misspell one URL. Not that I have to worry about it since I don't let my dog type, unlike some people (obviously, or else there would not be this problem)

A U.S. court shut down thousands of Web sites after it determined that they diverted Web surfers and held them captive while bombarding them with ads for pornography and gambling, the U.S. government said on Monday. Read the full article

You have no idea how much I dislike such sites that do such pointless things as pop up ads. I can handle one of them, but after one I start to get annoyed. It's just like SPAM. Just the other day I deleted something without even looking at it, and much to my delight I found it back in my inbox, I deleted it again. And I found it back in my inbox again.

One place that I think is annoying as all hell is "cjb.net". They offer free redirections. So someone gives you a wrong URL to a site that has the extension "cjb.net" and off you go to about 3 pop ups and a java promt asking you if you want to have your default homepage set to their add page. And of course people will click the "Ok" button since they get scared when they see a prompt like that... Go figure

square Halloween's a comin' -- Chris || Post in the forum
line.jpg

Now that it is October 1, that means that it is time for Halloween to come along down the road in a few more weeks.

Keeping that in mind, I was listening to New Jersey 101.5 today, and I heard some lady say that she works in one of the big discount places (Costco, Sams), and she said some people buy 300 to 400 dollars worh of stuff for halloween. What the heck? That is a lot of money on a holiday such as Halloween. Besides candy, I don't know what other large Expencies there should be. I guess there are a lot of people that always have to have the biggest and the best around here.
