Chapter Two - On To Duelist Kingdom

By Seth Oleson
CHAPTER TWO
---
James leaned over his console, breathing heavily. This was tough. Way tougher than he had ever thought. Pegasus was toying with him right now, and James knew he had lost. But he couldn't give up, not now. Once the name Pegasus had come up, nearly a million more people tuned in to watch this epic Duel.

Across the board, Pegasus smiled at him. "What's the matter, James-boy? You seemed so confident once you had played your Gate Guardian. Where is that confidence now?" James sighed and looked up, wondering how he was going to get out of this one. Pegasus had destroyed his Gate Guardian without even a thought.

"Damn you, Pegasus," James muttered to himself. "Damn you and your damn Toon Deck!" It was true, the monster that had defeated his Gate Guardian was, in fact, itself. A Toon Gate Guardian. Pegasus had taken control of it and dropped it in his Toon World book, converting it to Toon form.

"Have you nothing to say or do in your defense?" Pegasus chided, chuckling a bit. "Very well. Toon Gate Guardian! Attack James' Mask of Darkness!" The comic charade of James' ultimate monster blasted his Mask to pieces, shattering his Life Points.

"The winner! Maximillion Pegasus!" The megaphone blared to the audience. James fell to his knees in shock. It was over? How? It had only just started. A hand came down on James' shoulder. He looked up to see Pegasus smiling at him.

"You are a good Duelist, James-boy. I very much enjoyed our little Match today." Pegasus handed him a card with a picture of a castle on it. "This will get you into the Duelist Kingdom, my personal Dueling island. I am hosting a tournament with a $3,000,000 prize. It would be an honor to have you join us there."

James smiled, and stood up. "I'll be there."

"Here we go!" the captain said over the intercom on the boat that would take the Duelists to Duelist Kingdom. James was very nervous, as he shuffled his deck over and over again, trying to get it in just the right order for his opponents. The door to his room flew open with a loud clang. James whirled around to see who had intruded on him like this.

"James Leigh!" a decidedly female voice said. "I heard what you said at Regionals, and it was very condescending. How could you be so rude to a lady?" The person walked into the room to reveal herself.

It was Mai Valentine. The Harpy Lady Mistress. "I challenge you to a Duel, right here, right now!" Mai said, sitting across the table and practically throwing her Deck down.

"Sure," James said nonchalantly as he shuffled his Deck one last time.
