| What
Is UCN?...
Dear
Prospective UCN member,
Thanks for showing interest in the new venture we
are undertaking, the United Clan Network.
Here is a brief overview of what we would like to
accomplish through the United Clan Network
(UCN). Gaming clans are formed generally by
people associating themselves with others who play
the same games and also having similar interests.
This is sometimes limiting as many clans are
single game clans, but not all members play only
one game or play all the same games as those in
their associated clan. UCN is an attempt to form a
larger gaming community yet still have all the
affiliated clans keep their own
"sovereignty". UCN would not
govern individual clans, only inter-clan events
and tournaments. Those in UCN would form a
"confederacy" (by definition) of clans.
It will give individuals an opportunity to find
other individuals to game with, form larger
leagues and tournaments, and a way for each clan
to promote themselves to prospective new members.
While we are still in the early planning stages,
here is what we envision. (This is also subject to
change after the initial council is appointed, as
we in Dark Legacy do not control UCN.
We are as much a member as anyone else, we have
just brought the idea to fruition.) Each clan will
initially appoint 2 members to represent them in
the UCN council. These council members will
be assigned to committees that will handle the
various tasks of UCN. Nothing hard or time
consuming; mainly upkeep of web site and member
data, organization of leagues and tournaments,
etc. We will rotate the tasks around as needed so
everyone does their fair share for the community.
And the clan representatives will keep their
fellow clan members abreast of all happenings
throughout the network.
The initial committees will be as follows: Sports,
FPS-realism, FPS-fantasy, RPG, Racing, and the
Main Council. The Main Council will be the
committee responsible for upkeep of main site and
all other issues such as new membership, forming
of additional needed committees, and promotion of
network. Any proposals from the main committee do
need to be approved by the majority of the
membership. In other words, they can introduce
changes but needs to be voted on by entire council
before ratified. All the other committees, as you
can guess, will deal with each individual genre of
game listed. Note that I have separated the FPS
into two sections. This is due to the two types of
games are generally played much differently and
should be treated differently. These committees
are responsible for their own genres tournaments,
leagues, and promotion. Each committee will have
an elected chairman and representatives can serve
on more than one committee, but cannot be Chair of
more than one committee. Each committee should
have no less than 3 members, but no more than 5.
(The Main Council is the exception, can have up to
7 members). Also each committee should not have
more than one representative from any clan, to
prevent favoritism and promote fairness. Committee
members should try to meet on a regular basis,
either by chat or keep in contact by e-mail to
keep abreast of current happenings.
Initially this will be a lot of work, but will be
worth it in the long run and won't be so bad once
we all pitch in and do our part. This is a great
opportunity to expand your gaming community's
horizon and interests, whether you play on Xbox,
PS2, PC, or Mac. We hope to have you on board
for this venture as it is going to be a great
ride.
