You can use CSS & or javascript to put a background color behind a string of text or a single text character or in a text link.You can put the CSS in the head tag or just after the opening BODY tag,
The javascript onmouseover & onmouseout code you can add anywhere you use the FONT tag without anything added to the HEAD tag.
Run your cursor over this text:
OnMouseover this text will get a red background.
OnMouseout it will get a blue background that stays.Notice how a background color will alter a font color.
Put your cursor on this text:
OnMouseover this text gets a red background & Onmouseout it stays red forever.
