This works with XP Pro & maybe Windows 2000.Click on Start/Run & type in Gpedit.msc
This takes you to the Group Policy window.

I had to remove "My Pictures" icon from Startup before "Documents" would disappear since "My Pictures" was in the slideout menu of "Documents".
I didn't have to remove "My Documents".
I suggest you don't either.
Removing the Documents link from the Start Menu doesn't stop stuff from being remembered.
You'll want to clear the list once & a while.
