I got the basic method on how to do this from visiting my website & choosing to save a page "As webpage complete".First open "My Documents" & right click on an empty area of the My Documents file window.
Choose "Create a new folder".
Name the new folder anything you want to name it.
Right click on the new folder & choose "Explore".
It's empty so you won't see any content.
Right click in it & choose "Create a new folder".
Name it something similar to the .htm or .html file you are about to create.
With saving as webpage complete the title of the folder is the title of the .html file followed by "_files".
That is, the title of your webpage.
Like this: "My Webpage Title_files".
Or whatever.
Using the page title is optional but helps to hold down confusion.
Now, drag & drop or otherwise put all the images & sounds & other types of files you intend to use in your .htm or .html file in the new folder.
As far as I know, you can use images, sounds, .swf, JAVA class & .jar, .doc, .txt, or many others.
Now open Windows Notepad & create an .htm or .html file - (Webpage).
NOTE:
I made a Basic New Page .txt file using Notepad for working on my website to save me lots of effort when starting a new page.
The .txt file contains the basic HTML codes for starting a new webpage.
I just change things as needed for each new page.
Like the title & meta tags & stuff.
I wanted to show it to you as a .txt file but Angelfire won't display it as a .txt file so I renamed it to a .doc file.
When you click on it below just click on "Open".You don't have to download it.
It will open with Wordpad instead of Notepad.
Close Wordpad to continue reading this page.
Having a template to work from saves a lot of time.
I just showed you my template as an example.
Your own template will most likely be much different from mine.
Save your Notepad file as .htm or .html in the folder with your "_files" folder.
You now have 2 files in the folder.
( The "_files" folder & the .htm or .html document-[file] )
Getting The Addresses My main folder was named, "Local_test_folder".
The folder in it containing the image & sound file was named, "HTML TEST_files".
The .htm file was named, "HTML TEST.htm".
One of the images in the "HTML TEST_files" folder is, "clouds.jpg".
The address used in the .htm file is:
The sound file is, "YooHoo.wav".
I used the A HREF tag for it.
Click Here To Test YooHoo.wav Note: This was just a test file I made.
It's better not to have any spaces in file names. You use the name of the folder the used files are in with a forward slash between the folder name & the file name.
Keep in mind that the folder with the files to be used in the .htm file must be in the same folder with the .htm file.
Download the test folder to test it:
First create a new folder to download it to in MY Documents.
Download it to the new folder.
Then extract the contents TO THE SAME FOLDER.
Right click on the .htm file & click on "OPEN".
Download Local_test_folder.zip Here
View source on the opened .htm file to see how I added the codes.
You may be asking yourself, "What can I do with this?".
Well, you can make your own webpages to send to friends & family right on your own computer without relying on a server.
Use javascript to make a slideshow of your children or grandchildren or pets or whatever.
Keep in mind that on a 56K modem using a dialup connection it takes about 3 minutes for 1 megabyte of information to download.
If you want to send your folder via Email it MUST be zipped up first.
You CANNOT send unzipped folders.
Only files.
Right click on your folder with XP Pro & a zip program like Easy Zip 2000 installed & choose "Compress to YOUR FOLDER.ZIP".
The original folder will not be lost.
A new zipped version of it will be created.
This new .zip file is what you attach to your email.
Make sure whoever you send it to knows how to open and use it.
If you just have a couple image or sound files or whatever you could just put them in the main folder with the .html file & not in a sub-folder.
In which case just use the file name in the html tags.
Example:
In the folder is:
TEST.html & dog.jpg
To get the dog picture to show up use:
![]()
In TEST.html.
If you have a sound like bark.wav use for example:
![]()
