Julie's (Carrigon's) Plastic Canvas Patterns Page

I finally finished this pattern as of 2/9/00! It's a lovebird box with hearts on it. This is actually a combination of two patterns I found.

I love this pattern because it is so versatile. You can use roses instead of hearts or you can change the color scheme to blues. I have used dark rose, light rose and eggshell for this box. You also get a wonderful variety of stitches here. It's a fun pattern.

Okay, going from top to bottom and left to right in my pictures above:

NOTE: I measured these pieces according to exactly how many holes across. So if you have four holes, and you hold the canvas up to the hole scaler, the canvas should end on FIVE, but you have FOUR holes.

Lovebird piece--This is the top of the box. This is the main lid piece. You can use any colors you like. I used Eggshell, Crimson, Light Blue, Rose Pink, Brown, Forest Green, and Tangerine for the beaks. The entire box is 7 Mesh Canvas. Cut this piece 28 X 48 Holes.

Large Box Sides--This is a side of the box. Cut two, 29X 46 Holes. The top row is the square type of side stitch. You're going over three stitches across for each square. If you're familiar with Plastic Canvas, then you know it's all counting. If you're not familiar, you can try using a graphics program to enlarge the pictures and really get a good look at these stitches. You only use three colors for the side pieces. Eggshell, Crimson, and Rose Pink. If you really want to fancy up this box, use some tiny pearl beads where the eggshell dots into the Rose Pink.

Small Box Side Pieces--Cut two, 29X 26 Holes. Work it like the Large Box Sides, but make sure you compensate for the smaller size by looking at the photo.

Top Lid, Small Sides--Cut two, 28 X 4 Holes. Eggshell and a Crimson Heart in the middle. I didn't scallop the edges or anything fancy. You can do whatever you want with these small sides.

Top Lid, Large Sides--Cut two, 48 X 4 Holes. Eggshell and a Crimson Heart in the middle.

Bottom of Box--Cut one, 46 X 26 Holes. Work this as the side square stitch going over FIVE stitches across for each square. You should have NINE squares across and FIVE squares down exactly according to my pattern.

Final Instructions--Just whip stitch the pieces together to form a box. Make the lid separately, stitch the lid sides to the top lid piece. Stitch the box sides together and stitch them to the bottom box piece. The lid of the box should be fully removeable. If you want to, before you stitch it all together, take some white or eggshell colored felt and use a glue gun to attach it to the backs of the box pieces, so the felt will rest inside the box, protecting your stitches and making the box alittle longer lasting. Don't be afraid to make this pattern your own. Add tiny pearl beads or lace, change the colors. Do the hearts in blue. There are alot of variations you can do. Have fun with it.

The original designs were done by: Michele Wilcox, who created a Love Birds Jewelry Box and a Mother's Day Gift Basket, which both appeared in different issues of Plastic Canvas Magazine. I combined both designs to create this box pattern.

I'm going to use this page to put up free designs I create or any fun project I might be working on. I'm also thinking of adding my special Wiccan Magick Money Box. It was published years ago in a mag called 'Craft/Crafts. I never did another one, just kept the one I made. But I've always wanted to do another just for fun. Now that I have a scanner I can scan my projects in as I work on them. I will add to this page and update as I go along. Enjoy the page!
