Not many people who locally play DDR know that the game has many hidden, secret modes. The modes range from using both pads to not having arrows at all. And most can be used in combination with another .

These codes can only be used while the game is at the stage select screen.
Cancle Any in-game code: ^, ^, ^, ^, ^, ^, ^, ^
Mirror Mode; Flips the arrows in the opposite direction, so the dance can be played towards the audience: <-, ->, <-, ->, <-, ->, <-, ->
Little Mode; Turns off all the off-beat steps: <-, v, ->, v, <-
Left; Turns all the steps 90 degrees left: <-, <-, <-, <-, <-, <-, <-, <-
Right; Turns all the steps 90 degrees right: ->, ->, ->, ->, ->, ->, ->, ->
Shuffle; All the arrows come out in a different set order: ^, v, <-, ->, v, ^, ->, <-
Hidden; The arrows dissapear before the reach the top of the screen: ^, v, ^, v
Sudden; The arrows appear 3/4 into of the screen up: ^, v, ^, v, ^, v, ^, v

After inserting your coins, don't press start. Press and hold the left and right arrow that are next to the start screen, and press start WHILE holding these two buttons. Afterwards scroll to whichever selection you wish to make.
To take this a step further, whenever you select doubles with only side of the machine, you only get either 1 or 2 songs (depending on the mode you select). To get the full game, insert enough for TWO credits, and do the arrow-holding thing to get doubles. Then during the menu that appears, press start on the opposite side, and instead of only doing 1 or 2 levels, you'll get a full game! This also goes the same for Unison and Versus Mode.
SSR is the hardest mode availble in the game. It's also known as Expert in DDR USA and sometimes Maniac in other versions of the game. However, SSR is the only one that needs a code to unlock. The others are selected without any codes. To open SSR mode, after you put in your coins, press with the 2 yellow buttons <-, <-, <-, ->, ->, ->, <-, ->. If done correctly, you will see the screen change to SSR and the announcer will say "Step Step Revolution!" This can be done in conjunction with any of the codes such as Double and Versus mode.
Note: Arrows are not color coded in SSR unless with code "Vivid"
Warning: These songs are extreamly difficult. Only try whenever you have passed all the difficulties of regular DDR 3rd Mix.
This code, believe it or not, is given to you in the game. It tells you how to do it (but alot of people ignore it, so they don't get the chance to do it). After you put in your coins press with the yellow buttons <-, <-, ->, ->. The screen logo will change to DDR 2nd Remix.
Note: Expert mode can only be used if the player is in normal mode, not soft mode.
If you put in the code for 2nd mix, and decide that you want 3rd mix then you must input another cod. To get back to 3rd mix from 2nd mix, press <-, ->, <-. If done right, the screen logo will change back to DDR 3rd Remix.
At the character select screen, press the the down arrow on the pad to get a secondary scroll-list of characters. Press down again to get back to the original scroll-list of characters.
