In the night-filled distance police sirens could be heard drowning out those of abulances and a couple firefighter trucks as they charged to reach a crime scene. A lazy curl of smoke rose from that area as well, though it was slowly growing thicker. Given that kind of response it wasn't too surprising that the events happening a few miles away on a single rooftop weren't gaining attention.
Upon said roof stood a solitary figure dressed in black leather-looking boots, faded jeans of the same hue, and a jacket that matches the boots in look. Under the jacket rests a crimson sweater along with a silk ribbon tying back her hair that is the same red colour. To finish the look off a belt made from the same material as the boots and jacket hugs the hips, though it's contours flare out to form a pair of matching gun holsters on each side. Inside of these rest pistols of ordinary appearance though they shine brightly from the care taken to maintain them.
Most people would likely describe the person wearing the clothes as rather unimpressive given she stands 5'6" tall. The Asian looks mixed in for slightly olive skin, raven black hair currently down to the middle of the back, and smoothness to the facial features tend to add a bit to this impression. However, the silver-grey eyes combined with cat-like poise with every movement just as quickly dispel such illusions as they fairly shout "predator" to anyone with an ounce of self-preservation.
At the moment a brief breeze flicks its soft touch over the buildings and its course, along with debris pushed by it, are the only movement. Not for long, however, as twelve metallic globes the size of soccer balls rise upon the air from their positions about the woman. The circle is about ten meters across so none of the drones are within easy reach. They quickly fan out a bit further as scanners search out the area for the briefest of moments. Then a slight turn to the right by half of the drones is made to correct from a slight bit of drifting.
Perhaps it was an attempt at distracting as well. The next instant the air is filled with laser beams shot from various openings in each sphere towards the center of the circle.
Their target was no longer where she'd been just an eye blink before, though. Meanwhile the pistols seemed to leap from their holsters into the hands given how fast the movements to take them out had been. Those beams that did manage to hit were stopped just before the skin or clothes by an invisible barrier. The same couldn't be said of the return fire from the pistols. Two of the drones disintegrate from the telekinetic beams, and the others respond by shifting to fill in the gap within the firing line while pouring out even more laser fire.
A side-step is made with one rapid, but fluid, movement while the left-hand pistol is tossed into the air fairly high. While it spins its twin takes out another drone while the "empty" hand flicks a few ball bearings at another. The small spheres hang in the air for an instant before suddenly vanishing. The sound of a gun-like crack fills the air and an instant later several holes appear in the bearings' target before it falls to the roof once again.
There was no let-up in the return fire as the drone network recalculated its strategy as the falling pistol is caught by the woman without a hint of doubt. The firing pattern shifts slightly as the ring around her starts to move quickly, but maintaining the circle. They also start taking up a bobbing pattern where half of them rise to double their height above the roof, then down again before the other half repeat the process. Pretty much saturating the entire area in three-dimensional death. Unfortunately that would be true assuming their fire wasn't simply passing right through the target as it ran forward. The pistols were back in their holsters as the ghostly figure's hands swept outward. Two swords made of light appeared within both fists and her body regained its substance just long enough for the weapons to slice through another two drones. The halves drift in the air for another heartbeat before descending to the roof with a series of clangs. In the time between the attack and its results the ghost form has resumed.
This time the remaining six drones are ready, however, and instead of laser beams bolts of electricity start to fill the air like mini lightening bolts. Those these are more than willing to strike the same spot more than once. Once more each bolt seems to hit a barrier about body, though it's caused her to regain substance. The pistols remain within their holsters for the moment as the right hand is raised and aimed carefully with the fingers and thumb creating a "gun" shape. The thumb goes down and the same time a bright sky-blue bolt of electricity leaps out to spear a drone all the way through. A black scorch mark on the facing her marks the spot and an instant later the roof reclaims another of the metallic spheres. The hand and fingers turn to take aim again with the result of another drone falling from the same cause.
The final four drones' thoughts flicker at the speed of light too each other, resulting in them all suddenly flying straight at her while firing. At the same time curved, foot-long blades made of extremely hard alloys flick out around the circumference of each sphere and they begin to spin on their vertical axis. Two are met by pistol fire on the initial charge, but the other two actually hit. Once again the blades are stopped just before the skin. If someone was watching they probably would expect sparks to be flying off the blades given the seeming solidity of whatever they were hittting. Meanwhile lectrical bolts pour out to hit the same spots. A few brief seconds later and the breeze is the only thing left upon the air as the halves of those last spheres hit the roof with a bit more force.
A slight wince passes over the woman's features at the noise level from those hits, though the entire fight had only taken a few minutes. One deep breath is taken, held, released. It's done again, and then the silver-grey eyes blink as the concentration used for the fight is relaxed. Nearby the sounds of a couple sirens rapidly grow closer and the realization hits that the police were coming after all.
"Guess that situation was cleaned up a bit quicker than I thought it would be. That or the neighbours took more exception to the lightshow than normal. Either way..." The words are spoken evenly and without hurry while steps are taken towards the side opposite of the approaching sirens. "It's time to vanish before the authorities become a pain in my ass."
With that a rope is grabbed and the harness attached to it slipped on with the ease of long practice. A moment later the roof was bare except for the slightly sparking and smoking remains of the drones as the woman jumped off the edge. By the time the police arrive she's long gone and hiding within the shadows of the night.
A small smile tugged at the lips at the thought that this situation wasn't really worth sweating about given how many other tougher scrapes had come and gone over the years. At the same time moving like an ambulatory shadow from place to place with about as much noise created as a ghost. Pausing for a few moments at the entrance to the alleyway before stepping out onto the lighted sidewalk with an air of purpose but making sure one hand was somewhat close to one of the two pistols at her hips at all times. After all there was more than one predator that walked on two feet out this night and becoming another statistic on some police officer's desk wasn't exactly on the top 1000 things on her to-do list.
