Epilogue

When Baron Fulford returned to his Castle in England, planning to force Megan into marrying him, he was furious to find that his two captives had escaped. On finding out that it had been two Scots that had taken the two women, he immediately knew who they were and which group they must have been with before he met them.
Purple in the face, he gathered together his army and once more made the long journey to the MacAllen Holding, this time intent on war. But before he reached MacAllen land, Robert and Aaron were warned of his pending arrival and rode to meet the Baron, calling together all those clans that were friendly to them (and some which weren’t particularly friendly but which loved a good fight against the English).
When the Baron met this formidable group of imposing Scotsmen, he turned tail and fled, leading his army back to England as fast as the four legs beneath him would carry him. And from that day forward the MacAllens and the MacDonalds were free from him.
Lady Morris returned to her late husband’s castle, not finding it comfortable dwelling in the vicinity of Aaron who, although never overtly rude or scornful, made it clear to her that he disliked her treatment of his wife in former years. After her departure, life settled down nicely for her two daughters.
Megan was content just being with the sister she adored and the man she loved. As he had promised, his people loved her too. At first they were a little wary of her but soon they saw her as a waif that needed a home and drew her into their family, becoming almost as protective of her as Aaron and Annabeth.
As for Annabeth, she would never be truly content unless she had plenty with which to occupy her time. But any mother will know that with nine sons, all arriving in quick succession, provide ample employment for even the most restless of minds. At times, it has to be said, she was very grateful to have her sister with her and, later on, the help of Aurelia, who was never seen as anything other than Annabeth’s own daughter.
