by Ynda Hous' (fullhousewannabe@fh.com) - reprinted with permission from the April 1, 2002, edition of The George-Anne Read the uncut version of this story, featuring three or four paragraphs worth of fun cut out due to lack of space in the print version The GSU campus has seen many big names and events come and go, but none like what will hit the Russell Union on Apr. 2nd at 7 p.m. That's right, the majority of the cast of the classic sitcom "Full House" will be in attendance for the first-ever reunion since original episodes of the show stopped being made. You might remember the Tanner family and the hijinxs that always seemed to happen in their big house. There was Danny, the widowed dad with three kids. His oldest daughter, DJ, struggled with all of the big decisions that your average teenager does. Then there was Stephanie, the middle child struggling through the awkward stages of life. And then there was Michelle, struggling through being a little cutie pie. Danny was joined in the house by Joey Gladstone, who tested out all of his jokes on the family since he obviously did not have what it takes to be a real comic. There was also Uncle Jesse, known for his hair - don't touch it! - and his musical tastes. Jesse was married to Becky, Danny's cohost of a local morning show. Confused yet? None of those characters could hold a candle to Kimmy Gibler, the neighbor and friend of DJ. Kimmy was a true fashion plate with her bright shoes and fashionable hairstyles. Oh, Jesse and Becky had twins, but they came really late in the series and nobody remembers them anyway. Better remembered is the family dog. An anonymous student noted, "Oh, snap! I loved that dog!" Didn't we all, pal... didn't we all. Of all of the former cast, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have obviously been the only ones to do anything decent with themselves in Hollywood since. The twins star in their own sitcom on ABC Family and have a very successful line of videos and DVDs. In addition, they have their own clothing line and magazine. Sadly, however, Mary Kate will not be present at the reunion. A statement issued by her agent reads, "Mary Kate wishes to not participate in this reunion. John Stamos, known as Uncle Jesse on the show, has also been successful. Yes, "successful" does indeed mean marrying Rebecca Romijn. Stamos has attempted a few television shows since, but none of that really matters after marrying Romijn. Not surprisingly, Bob Saget has been the easiest of the reuniting stars for the George-Anne staff to contact. Following the demise of "Full House," Saget went on to host the first edition of "America's Funniest Home Videos" for what seemed like an eternity. |
FULL HOUSE: The cast will reunite after several years in the Union. Students are encouraged to stop by and meet with the cast tomorrow at 7 p.m. (House Full/FFSTA) Saget says, "Honestly, I don't see why I haven't been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yet. I portrayed the model '90s dad and made funny voices over videos of guys getting hit in the crotch and cats falling off of televisions. What more do they want?" The answer to that question may never be known. However, for attending the reunion, the George-Anne staff has guaranteed Saget that we will write his name in chalk in a star outside of the University Store, right next to the ad for ladies' night. This announcement threw Saget into a whirl of excitement: "Finally, somebody recognizes the true talent of Bob Saget. Thank you, GSU. Thank for you recognizing the guy who should be getting the movie parts that Russell Crowe gets." Realizing what he said, Saget then lowered his head and added, "Well, that or at least doing the voiceovers for the new Subway commercials. Come on, I can do it! His name is Jared... dum dum dum..." Saget was then dragged off by a group of men in white coats, laughing uncontrollably. Despite this, he will still be at the reunion tomorrow night. The rest of the cast has faded off into obscurity, but don't tell them that. Dave Coulier, who starred as Joey (and that woodchuck puppet he carried around), was full of excitement at the press conference announcing the reunion. "After many years of starring in various sitcoms and movies, I am proud to be reuniting with my fellow cast." Research could not find a list of these shows and movies, but Courier was insistant. "Cut... it... out! These shows were all hits." Candace Cameron, also known as oldest daughter DJ, tearfully remembered her stardom following the show. Lori Laughlin, Jesse's wife Rebecca on the show, had little to add on the reunion. "Well, I've done a few Lifetime movies since the show. I'm ready to get back with the old cast and have some fun." Those planning on attending the reunion should plan to arrive a few hours early. The Union looks like it will be filled to capacity by 7 p.m. |
