Carefully jump towards the left from platform to platform. Be calm and don't go into hysteria. It is much easier if you keep calm and jump carefully. After passing a starpost, you would find falling platforms. Just jump on each one until the last where you can just jump down.
After that, you would find a lightning shield. Take it if you want. Anyway, don't immediately jump down. Jump to the left and you would find more rings. Jump to the left again and you would find more rings plus a FIRE SHIELD!!! Grab it and jump down. With this fire shield, it would be super easy to pass this boss as you would be able to walk on fire. When you reach the bottom, you would find Robotnik. He would fire three spike balls upwards. The spike balls would land at your left at the appropriate places. (Don't worry about the positions of Robotnik; when you start out, Robotnik would be at the right. After three spike balls, he would sink and appear at the left. So don't be hit by him! Try to stay in the center.)
Just jump over them and let the spike balls hit Robotnik.
