"The Heart of a Volunteer"

cji
3/l8/99

Verse 1
********

Once you start you continue
for your blood becomes such
you find it no longer belongs to you
and nothing you're asked is too much.

Verse 2
********

You cry when the fires are over
or the storm has passed you by
you want to sit in fields of clover
and know sometimes it's okay to cry.

Verse 3
********

Your waking moments even at work
are about another who needs some care
you never your honor or duty shirk
to the point of offering to risk or share.

Verse 4
********

Thus the heart of volunteer beats strong
although some of us to get a bit old
it seems the time is short not long
when you help another get a hold.
C.J. Ingerson
(ARC Volunteer since age 8?)
