"The Season of Love and Life"

C.J. Ingerson
3/10/99

Verse 1
********

Part I: The Winter

This is both where we begin
and also where we end,
ironically dependent upon
others we love for attention
and care beyond the norm
also knowing with knowledge
the she or he we love
may know nothing more
than our touch or our voice.

Verse 2
********

Hardest of all is not knowing
when you touch their hand
of how they will respond
much like the baby
makes different cries
for the attention required
the winter is the fruits
of the years of labor
between two who've
braved the storm
of love and life.

Verse 3
********

Part II: The Spring

To once again enter into
the ages of two to ten
to remember the attention
or lack there-of to learn
to know about this
thing called
an Earthly love and life.

Verse 4
********

To either be doted upon
or cast aside like before
or to sometimes have
just in a home reside;
it is the time of fairy tales
and dreams and wishes;
of answered or unanswered
prayers from which we learn
in this life which way truly
the wind will blow today.

Verse 5
********

Part III: The Summer

When somehow the age
is lowered now in man's shame
to become an adult we know
the advertising is directed
to those who are anywhere
from eleven to twenty-seven;
and there is no doubt
what it is striving for to get;
for wealth, power, avarice,
lust and contempt for morals,
or virtue, or values of any kind.

Verse 6
********

It is in the Summer they think
those who run this world
we've all lost our minds
in search or quest of more
just a more of the worldly things;
we think too marry or not
or just have lots of kids,
not necessarily in order or both
for our lives to really begin,
yet it is in the summer we hear
of the cries of youth to be adult
and of the adult to be the youth.

Verse 7
********

Part IV: The Fall

This is the time when
we look out upon a sunset
and sometimes see the fire
instead of all the beauty;
for in the Fall of love and life
are the reflections from the who
of all the things we dreamed to do
and have some left undone just now;
so we see the fire of burning time
and passions of our endless minds.

Verse 8
********

Now we our children have mostly
raised to become an entity of their own
and with this comes the freedom
to more ably choose or to waste
the fruits of the long harvest called
by some as life and others hell;
but it is what we make of it
though all the struggles
and most of all the refiners fire;
thus Fall we sometimes mistake
the sunset filled beautiful sky
as an infernal of fire.

Verse 9
********

Part V: The Seasons

Gone now are the seasons
of a life full or empty
of fulfilled dreams
or empty uncompleted goals
of many loves and lives
or of only one in which
we chose to dwell;
there-in the sadness of some
and the eternal joy of another.

Verse 10
********

Each season will have its turn
in every life allowed to live
for to breathe of freedom
or to dwell in the slums
of another’s contempt
of other is where
we will be seen
in the sunset
or the fire.
