"It is a Business"

cji
5/29/99

Verse 1
********

I saw the sign
and stopped the car
it was a garage sale
for all to come and see.

Verse 2
********

Special items were displayed
each neatly set and priced;
so I asked about the value
a little high the price seemed.

Verse 3
********

Then gently I was told
the value is to me
and thus no negotiations
might be held unless;

Verse 4
********

I were to have something
in trade to offer or barter
instead of money to spend
especially for the Tupperware lid.

Verse 5
********

But it was the manner
that attracted me most
for everything but one
was priced $1,500.00.

Verse 6
********

Then this lovely lady
came to join the sale
and even to her now
all the price were the same.

Verse 7
********

Yet the lady said,
'I don't have that much.'
And the child rejoined
'For you mom $1,100.00.'

Verse 8
********

Now this really had my attention
as the mother then said,
'I've not that much either,
and I've errands to run.'

Verse 11
********

'That is okay mommy,
I'll hold it for you
and you can pay me
when you get back.'

Verse 10
********

It was all I could do
to watch this take place
as I asked the lady,
'Is this lovely girl yours?'

Verse 11
********

She said, 'Yes but don't
give her a check,
I think she'll try
to cash it,' with a laugh.

Verse 12
********

Now you know if you
go to Palmyra to visit
a little table you'll see
loaded with valuables.

Verse 13
********

But Catherine is ruthless
with which to deal,
her prices are set;
and she says it this way,

Verse 14
********

"MC told me about marketing,
and how you negotiate.'
Now you know of the little treasure
found at the Gables of Palmyra.

Verse 15
********

To visit is to stay and to stay
is to fall in love with Catherine;
enraptured with her smile
and uncanny business sense.

Verse 16
********

So to Halle and Catherine
I say a fond, 'Hello,'
may you find the happiness
in this, as we found in your home.
