Verse 1

Aging in man's world
hasn't much value
I've seen so far;
maybe it will have
an eternal aspect
to give it grace
and some perfection
before the day is done?

Verse 2

Most all the attention
is gathered to the youth
and then the harboring
to look youthful
instead of the loveliness
which once was found
in the frailness of age
with the still quick mind.
|
Verse 3
********
To be in the gentleness
of those with age
was one of the pure joys
of childhood when young
why now is it so hard
to be aging and despised
because you're no longer
only thirty-five or forty?
|
Verse 4
********
I've wondered about the hardness
of the mettle of those who shun
the elderly and the wisdom
and strength of character
they have to hold and to pass
out among those of us bold
enough to honor those
who paid the price
so we might more enjoy
the process of aging
in the freedom of life?
|
Verse 5

It is my suspect that
the youth are those
who now are frail
and seek for thrills
to equal happiness
unknown from pure love
and hard work
with each a mission
assigned from far above.
|
Verse 6
********
The ability to age is not of man
it comes to me in this life
for it is of eternal consequence
of the Gospel Plan to do this now;
while man seeks only a self
the one who ages seeks for others
to understand the wisdom
that to age gracefully
is what one must truly
learn to understand.

Verse 7

So while the laughter
and the insanity of youth
covers our papers today
we've forgotten those who
with loved ones paid the price
so that this day agency
was made to understand
sound advice which is now
shunned and pushed aside
in favor of the pleasure
to be foolish and have pride.

Verse 8
********
Don't mistake every generation
has had their share of fools
and ours is no different;
there also are the reverent
and those who really understand
that the love of Heavenly Father
is far more important than even
the tinyiest notice of mortal man.
