I got the following information from a brochure from Chattanooga Area Convention Center & Visitors Bureau in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
I have been to Moccasin Bend last March with my aunt and uncle. This place is sooooo beautiful and gorgeous.
Also, I have been the the Historic Chickamauga Battle Field with my aunt and uncle last March as well. This place gives you so much information about the battles in Georgia.
Named because its shape reminds one of a moccasin show, Moccasin Bend had been the landscape for more than 10,000 years of human habitation. From the earliest nomadic hunters and gatherers, to the fortified American Indian townships visited by European explorers, to the coming of the Cherokees and their forced removal onto the Trail of Tears, to the battles of Chickamauga and Chattanoogs, this area figures prominently into our regional history.
Preservationists say Moccasin Bend may be "the most significant archaeological complex existing inside a large city in the U.S." Point Park, which is located on the crest of Lookout Mountain, offers the best bird's-eye view of Moccasin Bend, Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley. Directions to Point Park on Lookout Mountain: Travel up Lookout Mountain past Ruby Falls on US Hwy. 148 and follow the signs to Point Park once on top of the mountain. There are no archaeolofical sites available for publi visitation on Moccasin Bend.
