Fort Moutain State Park

Again, I got the following information from the Chieftains Trail brochure from Calhoun, Georgia.

Fort Mountain derives its name from an ancient rock wall measuring 855 feet long which stands on the highest point of the mountain. The ancient wall is thought to have been built by Indians as a ceremonial center over a thousands years ago.

Located in the Chattahoochee National Forest close to Cohutta Wilderness area. Fort Mountain State Park offers picnicking, camping, cottages, swimming, hiking, and splendid views of the mountains for visitors traveling the Chieftain's Trail.

Fort Mountain State Park is located on Georgia 52, eight miles east of Chatsworth. Open daily, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. A $2.00 parking fee applies. Office hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Phone (706)695-2621.
