Again, I got the following information from the Chieftains Trail brochure from Calhoun, Georgia.
Known as the "Pink Marble Mansion", the 17,000 square foot Tate House was built in 1926 by Colonel Sam Tate, president of the Georgia Marble Company, as a spectacular showcase for the marble from his nearby quarries. The 27-acre estate was originally part of the homeland of the Cherokee Indians until their forced resettlement in the 1830's. There are remnants of the Old Harnago Tavern on the property. The Tate Spring House, built in 1830, is one of the oldest buildings in north Georgia.
The Tate House is located on Georgia 53, ten miles south of Jasper. Tours are available Monday and Tuesday with advance reservations. For more information or reservations, call toll-free (800)342-7515(outside Georgia) or (706)735-3122(inside Georgia).
