Walking to the sink she looked in the mirror her. Her face was pink and
swollen from crying. Oh well, it doesn’t matter what you look like, you
already made a fool of yourself!
Turning on the sink she splashed water on her face. God she felt like a
fool, but it had seemed so real. The memory of Ciaran grabbing her neck made
her shiver that was a dream she never wanted to have again. Grabbing a couple of paper towels she
wet them and started to wash her face and the back of her neck.
“OW!” Lifting her hair she had two small cuts in her neck. Paling, she
ran for the nearest toilet and heaved. Walking back to the sink she rinsed out her
mouth. “I’m going to kill him.”
With cold conviction she stared at her reflection in the mirror.
“Dammit, I still have to get my backpack from the drama room.” Taking one
last look Heather walked out of the bathroom. The halls were as dead as a
cemetery. She shivered at the visualization. She hated it when she did that to
herself. Just like the monster in the closet…
“Looking for these?” Someone said behind her.
Heather whipped around teeth extended, but instead of Ciaran standing
behind her she saw Reed. He looked at her reproachfully, “Now you know better
than to be flashing those around. Do you want some hunter finding out about
you and killing you? I know I wouldn’t like that at all.”
Reaching out she grabbed her bag quickly. Opening it she started looking
through it to make sure nothing was missing. “Why don’t you just leave me
alone. If I should be afraid of anyone it should be you! I don't know who you
are for all I know you could be a hunter.”
She said in a strained whisper, “I want you to just get your ass out of my
life I don’t want you helping me out I can handle myself.”
Reed sat impassively listening to her rant on. As quick as a cat he
grabbed her by the back of the neck. He saw he flinched a little more than she
should have. Pulling back her hair he noticed the bite marks. “Yah I’m sure
you can. When did this happen?”
Heather struggled wildly against Reeds touch. “Let me go you asshole! I
swear I’ll scream rape.” Seeing it was useless she slumped against him. “I got
them from Ciaran, okay he’s just a rogue vampire that only cares for himself.
Is that all? If so get your hands off of me.” She noticed he only touched the
clothed areas of her body. Feeling silly she put her had on his.
Gasping she felt like she was falling, as if everything around her no
longer had substance. 'What is this place?' Amazingly she could hear her own voice echoing
around her.
'They say it’s rude to intrude upon one’s mind.'
Looking up she saw Reed standing in front of her a quelling look on his
face.
'This is your fault. If you had just kept your hands to yourself.'
No matter which way she turned she couldn't find a way out.
Reed chuckled, 'Maybe you should stop kissing me and you might get out of
here.'
Heather looked up quickly and realized she wasn’t dreaming this was all
too real. As if being thrown back into her body she found her face inches from
Reeds, her lips still felt the tingle of his lips on hers. His arms were
wrapped possessively around her.
“Excuse me but I’m going home.” Pushing away from him she stood up. With
as much dignity as she could muster she started to walk away.
“Well then I’m walking you home, and I'm not taking no for an answer.”
Reed grabbed her arm to keep her from going any further.
“You really don’t have to walk me home. I can take care of myself.”
“It shows.” Reed replied dryly. Looking down at her he smiled
sarcastically. It was amazing how one little girl could turn his world so
inside out and find that he still wanted her. “Come on elf.” Saying that a
little meaner than he had intended he pulled her along side of him being
careful not to touch her too much.
Looking at her sideways he studied her features. She was quite lovely, not
beautiful, but lovely. Her hair was thick and fell in heavy waves to her
waist.
Her eyes were gray, and obviously when upset enough turned into a hypnotizing
liquid silver. Her face was somewhat pale and had an elfin look about it. What
Reed noticed most of all was her lips. He shivered at the memory. “Hurry up.”
Heather was fuming inside how dare he just show up and try to take over
her life and tell her what to do! There was no way in hell she was going to put up
with it. Smiling inwardly she came up with a plan. “Great my shoe came
untied!”
“Let me,” Reed bent down to tie her shoe. Noticing then that she had on
sandals.
“Heather…?”
Seeing her chance Heather brought down her clenched fists as hard as she
could into Reeds upper back. “UGH”, The impact made Reed fall to his hands and
knees. Heather planted her foot into his lowerback to keep him from getting up
to soon.
Trees and bushes flew past as she ran her only thought of getting to the
safety of her home. Slowing a little she realized she was only a few houses
down from her own. Deciding to take a shortcut she ran around a large hedge
surrounding the Henderson's yard.
As she turned the corner of the hedge a dark figure stepped in front her.
Stopping she slid to the ground. Getting up as quickly as possible she ran in the
opposite direction.
Before she could get any further than a couple of steps she was hit over the
head.
That was all that Heather could think when she came to. She could feel a
throbbing pain on the back of her head. Trying to raise her hand to the sore
spot she discovered that her hands were tied. What the hell is going on?
Moving around a little more she found that her feet were tied also, but she wasn't
gagged.
“Hello?” Her voice carried no echo. Heather’s heart plummeted, no echo
that meant that she was in a small-enclosed room. No one to hear her scream,
even Reed.
She felt her chest clench at her foolishness! All he had been trying to do
was protect her. Protect her from exactly what she had gotten herself into!
Stupid, stupid.
Okay girl get it together! First thing is to figure out where I'm at.
Pulling herself into a sitting position she assessed her surroundings. The
floor beneath her was all dirt, very hard packed dirt. She growled in
frustration. There didn't seem to be anyone in the house, adleast non-that she
could here. Giving up she leaned back against the wall trying to avoid leaning
on her tied hands. She had no clue what she was supposed to do now.
Sitting up quickly a thought came to her. I’m a vampire why wouldn’t I be
able to just rip off these bindings. Testing the strength of the ties she
realized just how flimsy they were. That is they were flimsy for a vampire.
RIIIIPPP
Heather hugged herself. Reaching down she then ripped the ties from her
legs off. Next she removed the blindfold off of her face and blinked a few
times. Her vision suddenly cleared and she could see where she was.
“What the hell?” She was in the basement of her parent’s summerhouse. But
the summerhouse was at the lake more than an hour from the city! Oh god, what had
happened last night?
Suddenly a pain shot through her lower abdomen. Holding her middle she
pulled herself up onto her feet. She froze in her tracks sniffing the air. She
could smell blood. Her teeth ached at the smell. She couldn't remember the
last time she had fed.
She could hear the sound of the deadbolt being pulled back on the
basement door.
Crouching down she waited for the unlucky soul who had locked her up. A
bulky figure walked unsteadily down the steps clutching the banister like he
would tumble at any moment. She could feel her teeth lengthening in
anticipation of the kill. She knew there was no way she could fight what was
about to happen. Finally she gave in knowing her mind was no longer her own.
The figure finally reached the bottom the stairs. She could smell alcohol
reeking from the person in front of her.
Not being able to hold back any longer she launched herself into the air.
She hit the person square in the chest knocking him to the floor. A strangled
cry leaped from the mans lips. She could adleast tell that much from the
person she held in her death grip. Moving his head to the side she attached
herself to her victims neck.
Sweet mother, her mouth sang in glory as she felt the horrible pain leave
her. It was like a desert after a long needed rain.
She sat back closing her eyes, she knew the person in her hands was dead.
It was not an easy feeling knowing she had killed some one. Not in her whole
short life of being a vampire had she ever killed a person. Wondering whom it
was she looked down.
"Oh my god!" Heather put her hand over her mouth.
It was her stepfather.
Pulling out his cell phone he hit memory one.
After a few rings a perky girl’s voice picked up on the other end,
"Hello."
"Tina, this is Reed. I'm fine...yeah. Sorry I really don't have time for
small talk." Reed rolled his eyes Tina was the nosiest person he knew. "I'll
explain later, I'm trying to find Heather."
'HELP ME!'
Reed dropped his phone and clutched his head. It felt as if a hammer was
pounding throughout his head.
Reaching down he grabbed his phone, "Never mind I think I know where she
is."
Cold realization hit her, she knew what she had to. Standing she
straightened her shirt and started walking up the basement stairs.
The world whizzed passed him as he drove up street after street. The
path he was following suddenly ended. Slowing down he made a U-turn in the middle of the
road, not worrying about other cars since it was almost 10 at night.
Jumping off of his bike he walked towards the hedge. Leaning down he
ran his hands along the ground. Some parts looked as if they had been
disturbed. Like someone sliding on the ground.
Looking up at the moon rising he couldn't help but ask the stars
where Heather was. Standing up he started walking back to his bike. Suddenly
his cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Reed! I know where Heather is. You know me and my curiosity well it
got the better of me and I did a scrying on her."
"Tina where is she already? I don't have time for this." Reed growled
into the phone.
"Sorry, she's at her parents summerhouse. I'm almost positive."
"Tell me how to get there."
Just as suddenly as the road had twisted it suddenly straightened
out. Before him was a truly beautiful sight.
A lake of a fairly nice size sat nestled against pines and
mountains. The water seemed to shimmer from the stars and moon.
Pulling himself back into reality he sped up and headed for the
small cabin at the far end of the dirt road.
Making her way to the living room she tripped again and landed on
all fours.
"What's happening to me?"
Pulling herself back up Heather could hear the roar of an engine
coming up the dirt road out front.
Not thinking Heather started running out the front door.
The outside world was much brighter than the dark house. Heather started
walking down the front steps and looked out at the road.
She could see a motorcycle making it's way towards her. Not watching
where she was going Heather’s foot twisted on the last step and she fell
forward.
For the second time that day Heather was knocked out cold.
