Main Aeons

Valefor

Location: Besaid Temple

Overdrive: Energy Ray, Energy Blast

Special: Sonic Wings – Damages an enemy and delays its next turn

Black Magic Abilities: Fire, Water, Blizzard and Thunder

The first aeon of Yuna’s pilgrimage, Valefor takes the form of a giant hawk-type creature. When Yuna flees her wedding in Bevelle by jumping off the top of the temple, it is Valefor who comes to her aid and bears her gently to safety.

Ifrit

Location: Kilika Temple

Overdrive: Hellfire

Special: Meteor Strike

Black Magic Abilities: Fire

White Magic Abilites: NulBlaze, NulFrost

The second aeon to answer Yuna’s call, Ifrit hails from Kilika – in the temple of fire. Ifrit’s form is like that of a demon – it’s actually kind of similar to how I picture the Balrog in the Lord of the Rings books.  Ifrit can heal up when damaged by casting a fire spell (Fire, Fira or Firaga) on himself.

Ixion

Location: Temple of Yevon-Djose

Overdrive: Thor’s Hammer

Special: Aerospark – causes damage to enemy and nullifies all spell effects

Black Magic Abilities: Thunder, Thundara

White Magic Abilities: NulShock, NulTide

Found in the Djose Temple – the temple of lightning. Ixion takes the form of a unicorn-type creature, but with a twisted horn. He can heal himself during battle by casting a lightning spell (Thunder, Thundara, or Thundaga) on himself.

Shiva

Location: Macalania Temple

Overdrive: Diamond Dust

Special: Heavenly Strike – causes ice damage to an enemy and delays its next turn

Black Magic Abilities: Blizzard, Blizzara

White Magic Abilities: NulBlaze, NulFrost

An aeon formed from the fayth of the temple at Lake Macalania, Shiva takes on the appearance of an ice maiden. Her evasion is high, and she can heal during battle by casting an ice spell (Blizzard, Blizzara or Blizzaga) on herself.

Bahamut

Location: Bevelle Temple

Overdrive: MegaFlare

Special: Impulse – Damages all enemies

Black Magic Abilities: Fire, Fira, Firaga, Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga, Water, Watera, Waterga, Thunder, Thundara and Thundaga

White Magic Abilities: Scan

Perhaps the most powerful of Yuna’s ‘main’ aeons, Bahamut is found in the temple of Bevelle – the capital of Yevon. Bahamut is able to deal critical damage to all enemies – he is the only one of Yuna’s ‘main’ aeons with the ability to exceed the maximum damage limit of 9999 HP.

Hidden Aeons

Yojimbo

Location: Cavern of the Stolen Fayth – The Calm Lands

Yojimbo is an aeon that was stolen from a temple in a bid to impede the summoners’ pilgrimages (if you want to know why someone would do this, you have to play the game). There is a path that leads down under a bridge into a cavern, and if you go right to the end and fight Yojimbo (then pay him a whole stack of Gil), he’ll be yours. Yojimbo’s attacks vary, depending on how much you pay him. The more Gil you pay Yojimbo, the more he’ll like you and the better his attacks will be. The following is a list of his attacks:

Daigoro: Yojimbo’s dog attacks the opponent

Kozuka: Yojimbo throws a knife at the enemy

Wakizashi: Yojimbo uses a sword attack on the enemy

Zanmato: Yojimbo beheads the enemy

They say Zanmato is only accessible if you pay Yojimbo a lot (and I mean a lot) of Gil. This was always the case for me, it broke my bank every time so I only did it once, but my sister got him to do Zanmato for 10 000 Gil (I don’t know how !!!) When I find out, I’ll post the strategy on my message board. Zanmato looks like a powerful, heavily armored warrior.

Anima

Location: Baaj Temple

Overdrive: Oblivion

Special: Pain – High chance that it will unleash instant death upon the opponent

Skills: Sleep Attack, Sleep Buster, Silence Attack, Silence Buster, Blind Attack, Blind Buster, Zombie Attack

Black Magic Abilities: Fire, Fira, Firaga, Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga, Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, Water, Watera, Waterga, Bio, Death

I did without Anima because there were a lot of sidequests I didn’t complete, however if you are going to do sidequests through the last part of the game, I strongly recommend having Anima as an ally. You can get Anima as soon as you gain control of the airship after you go to Zanarkand Ruins (after you’ve spoken to Maester Mika in Bevelle). When the list of options come up, go into search, and find the following co-ordinates: X – 11-16 and Y-57-63. When you have those, hit the X button repeatedly until it says something like, ‘Baaj Temple Unlocked’. Then go into the ‘List’ option, and choose the ‘Baaj Ruins’ or something to that effect. You do have to fight a boss before you can get Anima, and you also have to have all the Destruction Spheres from the temples around Spira (my main reason for not getting her), but it does reveal some of the story to you (mainly regarding Maester Seymour and his mother). Anima, like Bahamut and the Magus Sisters, can exceed the damage limit of 9999 HP. All the other aeons require fully-powered-up celestial weapons to exceed the damage limit. (No I am not sure how to get the celestial weapons fully powered up. GameFAQs has some good FAQs on the subject). I can’t really describe how Anima looks. The poor thing is terribly unattractive. I guess the only way would, unfortunately, be to describe her as a monster bound in chains.

The Magus Sisters

Location: Remiem Temple

Overdrive: Delta Attack

I didn’t even know these feisty sistas existed until my characters walking along Mushroom Rock Road, minding my own business, when they were ambushed by the Dark Aeon counterparts of the Magus Sisters. They killed me in one hit. The Magus Sisters appear in the form of bugs/ insects. Their names are: Sandy, Cindy and Mindy. There’s a whole side quest that goes along with obtaining these aeons. Basically, you have to have both Yojimbo and Anima; then you need to go to the Remiem Temple by riding a chocobo through the Calm Lands till you see a chocobo feather and examine it which will make the chocobo fly down onto a new path leading – shock horror – to the Remiem Temple. Then you must go into the temple and defeat all of Belgemine’s aeons. After Bahamut you should receive the Flower Scepter from Belgemine. After that you need to go back to the Monster Arena and catch all the fiends on Mt. Gagazet, go back to the Monster Arena, and obtain the Blossom Crown from the Monster Arena keeper. Go back to the Remiem Temple and use the two items to break the seal. Voila ! The Magus Sisters are yours. They are able to exceed the max damage limit of 9999 HP. Similar to Yojimbo, the Magus Sisters’ attack system varies from those of the other aeons.  These are their attacks:

Do as you will: Let the sisters decide what to do next

Fight !: Attack with a physical or special attack

Help each other !: Have the aeons cast curative magic on each other

Go, go !: Attack with magic or skills

Offense !: Use magic or attack

Defense !: Use defensive skills

What happened to you ?: Use Drain

Combine Powers !: Sisters combine for an overdrive attack
