.Earth, Water, Fire and
Industrial Stuff
An Abstract Color Photography Show
In our upstair gallery: In April four photography artists will exhibit a visual kaleidoscope of color and form which clarifies the relationship between photography and painting. Using the above theme these four photographers display exceptional prints for you to admire and purchase.
Michael Creem has been fascinated with fireworks since the age of eight. At first he took pictures in the classical way but didnt believe they captured the vitality he felt. The color, motion, noise and sweet smell of burnt black powder were lost. Taking some steps Michael started using exposures and film that would enhance the fireworks in motion giving the pictures a life of their own (hes still working on the noise and smell.) Michael Creem demonstrates camera manipulation with moving subjects captured in a bursts of color.
Susan Di Pierro uses a simplistic subject
matter as a vehicle to finesse light and form. Everyday subjects
are combined with a distinctive use of lighting to communicate an
aesthetic message bringing out delicate nuances. With an
experimental spontaneous approach Susan discoveries new beauty in
each image striving to communicate to the viewers an exploration
and enlightening understanding those everyday objects around us.
Paul Silverman is a specialist in abstract and fantasy imagery who utilizes industrial materials, plastics, and resins. Paul experiments with techniques of model and mold making, metal etching and fabrication, woodworking and lapidary thus creating vivid colors and intricate textures rarely seen in photography.
Paul Sutherland is an underwater
photographer who has traveled the world looking for subjects.
Excellent detail in images of seascapes and exotic marine fauna
characterize Paul Sutherlands work. His prints are a crisp
and colorful semblance of sea creatures taken from various angles
seen in their environments and allow a glimpse of the world
underwater.
In the Lower Gallery: Larry Kornegay an
accomplished woodworking artist visiting from Arizona has a
spectacular way of bringing together wood and objects to express
a human exposition. Larry derives satisfaction from producing
work which can speak to diverse social groups but can transcend
cultural classifications and labels. He begins with a personal
feeling, when an object suggests an idea making a fortuitous
collision of unrelated found objects to convey his message. It is
through the arrangement of fragments and found objects that Larry
exercises a respect for craftmanship.
Crafts in the Foyer: We present Margi Foster owner of MRF Designs, a jewelry artist from New York City. Margis uses gold and silver to enhance her favorite stone, the amber. Her pieces are bold, dramatic and colorful.
Janet Van Blarcom is a Stained Glass Artist from Kenilworth. She uses common themes and objects as her subject but has a brillant almost innate ability with stained glass. Janet has exhibited throughout NJ in craft shows.
The reception for Earth, Water, Fire and Industrial Stuff and Larry Kornegay will be held on April 5, 1998 from 1-4pm and as always is free. This is an opportunity to meet the artists in an intimate setting and discuss their work with them.
