Part FOUR
This page features two of our most intense storms of the summer, each bearing a weak funnel, which is very rare here in this part of the country.
An approaching rotating cloud. This one came in my direction from the East (moving West), and it seemed like it was going to form a tornado.........
...... but at the last minute, it broke up as the storm went into the Pocono Mts. As the rotating center collapsed, the only thing that remained was the outside "hollow" shown here, which soon disappeared as well.
This, as well as the next two images show a fast-approaching dangerous storm that packed high winds, hail, and a funnel cloud. These pictures are quite dramatic, and this storm hit camp around 8:30 on the morning of August 2nd. This picture shows the leading edge of the storm, quickly undercutting the clouds above it.
Only a few minutes later the wall cloud raced in, bringing with it some high winds, and this storm put on quite a show..... until the rain and small hail drove me back inside!
A little later there was a pause in the storm, and grabbing the camera I went onto the main part of camp in time to catch this weak, fast-moving funnel. It was moving quickly to the South, and our camp dining hall and "big top" tent can be seen in the picture.
