SLAVE OWNER
NEIL BUIE was born October 04, 1801 in Robeson County, NC, and died October 08, 1861 in Copiah County, MS. He married NANCY SMITH. She was born Abt. 1802 in GA.
They are buried in Wrights Cemetery in Franklin County, MS. Neil Buie was part of a large slaveholding family. He owned 76 slaves in 1860 according to the 1860 Copiah County Slave Schedule.
Children of NEIL BUIE and NANCY SMITH were: JOSEPH BUIE, b. November 11, 1831; ALEXANDER MERCER BUIE, b. April 18, 1834; ROBERT WASHINGTON BUIE, b. Abt. 1838; EMILY C. BUIE, b. September 19, 1840; OPHELIA L. BUIE, b. Abt. 1842; WILLIAM BUIE, b. January 29, 1828; and ANN BUIE.
