AGE MAKES A DIFFERENCE

This page is dedicated to Alex K. so thank this person because Alex is the one who specifically requested this to be done after seeing my dead tutorial. I apologize for the pixel art, but my scanner is broken and until I am rich I will not be able to show you pencil drawings.

Even so, I spent much of my beginning years of drawing using the computer mouse and bitmap imaging and online oekaki. So they're not so bad I hope.

DON'T LOOK AT ME WITH THOSE PUPPY EYES!

The child face is normally smaller and rounder with big eyes, close to the guide circle. And adult face is usually depicted with a longer placed jaw, maybe more narrow with smaller eyes that that of a child. There is no usually not much difference between a man's jaw and a woman's except only men have the square jaw that you might have seen around.

However, there are exceptions to the rule. But I won't go into those. You can research that or sort it out yourself what kinds of things you wanna draw. Simple eh!

Other than that I believe you'll find that it's true that babies and little kids have big eyes. See, your eyes never grow, therefore they appear to shrink over time when you're older. Also, in anime and manga the look is exaggerated.
A lot of babies have no chins and because of that their cheeks are huge and they have square-looking faces. So it'll be important that you draw a small or nonexistant not-very-defined jaw.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS BE YOUNG BUT YOU CAN BE IMMATURE FOREVER

Some people grow old fast and some people have a baby face or maybe something in between. Well, it's certain that people change at some point and I couldn't skip this stage as much as I would have liked to (I'm so lazy).

The example I have for you is self explanatory but I'll explain it for you anyway because I want to fill up some unfriendly black space next to it!

The eyes can still be large but not too large, because at this point the jaw is more noticeable, it has developed solidly. The hair, which is a poufy healthy thick coif as a child, kinda loses some size also because the change in face. It becomes finer.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS BE YOUNG BUT YOU CAN BE IMMATURE FOREVER

An adult has smaller eyes and a more developed face. Often, they might even look a tad sharper/angular than they used to be. I think this is simple enough and theoretically if I did my job right you'll understand how this all works. If I didn't though, let me know... gently and kindly please because I'm terrible sensitive.
Everything turns out alright in the end right? Well I suppose so, I hope you think so too!
