Robert Malcolm is widely regarded as the first youngster to benefit from Dick Advocaat's policy of giving youth a chance no matter what the occasion.

However, his initial two inclusions in the first team squad during the early part of the Little General’s first season didn't see him make his debut, only a place on the subs’ bench (away to Hearts and Dundee United).

But he wouldn’t have to wait too long – just over 12 months in fact – for his debut and he relished every one of his 15 minutes during an easy midweek win over Dundee United at Ibrox.

Not so long after that the powerful defender played his first full 90 minutes for the top team as Rangers romped to victory against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park when the SPL was already tied up last season.

Malcolm is a dyed-in-the-wool Rangers fan and it’s a dream for both himself and his Gers-daft family that he is plying his trade at Ibrox. But, like all the other youngsters at the club, it's up to him how far that dream goes. With Malcolm, you get the impression it could be everlasting.

He has performed expertly when called upon this season and is an important member of Alex McLeish's squad.
