THE Club are confident skipper Barry Ferguson will be fit to lead the side into Champions League action next season after his operation today was a complete success.
The 25-year-old went under the knife in a London hospital and as everything went so well, will be available to return home at the end of the week.
This will hopefully spell the end of all the problems Ferguson has been battling against this season and allow him to play freely without any painkillers next term.
Barry has been outstanding this year and as well as leading Rangers to the treble, deservedly picked up a clean sweep of honours winning both the PFA and Footballer Writers’ Player of the Year award.
He is a massive player for Alex McLeish and although the total rehabilitation timescale is six weeks the doctors have advised that Ferguson can return to light training before long.
That means Baz could be in line to start his pre-season training when the squad travels to Germany on July 14 and therefore realistically look to play his part in the Champions League qualifier on August 13.
Making an impression on the European stage is vital to Rangers next term and that is why the club took the decision that Ferguson had to have the operation now, even though it will obviously rule him out of Saturday’s international with Germany.
On returning to Glasgow Barry will enjoy some quality time with his family before reporting to Murray Park to be assessed by the medical staff.
