The Beginning

Shadow sat at her computer ready to turn it off for the night. She was tired and she had to be to work early in the morning. Her computer made a noise and an instant message popped up before her.

"Did you get an invitation for a party?" D62 asked her, as she read the message.

She scratched her head and replied. "No"

"Check your email. I could have sworn I saw your addy." he typed back at her.

She checked her email and it was one she had deleted. "is it from the person called Sharlette??" She asked him.

"Are you interested?" he responded.

"I don't know, I don't know this person do you?" She asks as she scans the list of addresses to see if she knows anyone else.

He doesn't write her back, not unusual for the quiet one though. She turns her computer off without another thought and heads to bed.

--------

Rachel and Chris stare at the computer screen looking at the email she had gotten/ Her exboyfriend wanted her to meet him at some old house to pick up some of her things.

"I really don't think you should go. He could be up to his old tricks." Chris says as he rereads the email. "Why there of all places??"

"He won't hurt me. Besides, don't you want those shoes back?" Rachel says as she starts to write her ex back.

"Yes, but they are not worth a black eye for. Tell me you won't go meet him there. If you do, take me with you." he tells his sister. He loved her too much to see her beaten by him again.

"OK OK, don't worry about it. I will tell you the minute I leave the house to see him. " She says and rolls her eyes.

"Going swimming." Chris says and kisses her on the forehead. Sometimes he felt like he was her older brother looking out for her. he left her alone as she wrote the address Bryce wanted her to go to. Deleting the mail, she follows her brother to the pool.

-----

Puck felt his pager vibrate in his pocket for the third time in the last 20 minutes. HE was not calling Jessica back this time. He was so tired of her whining, that he needed atleast a day without her. his friends often asked why he stayed with her. All he could think of was the sex was good.

He felt like he was driving in circles, he had passed the same creepy house 4 times now. It was more than a house, it looked like a castle. He stopped and stared at it for a few minutes, and then suddenly found himself walking up to it. The front yard was a tangle of weeds and dead flowers. A pond filled with dirt and broken angels was off to the side.

He reached the front door and the it swung slowly open. He stood staring, hesitant to go inside. Shaking his head, he walks in looking around at the dusty room. Cob webs were thick everywhere as if the place had never been lived in. A picture of a young woman caught his eye. The door behind him shut quietly, as he started to walk from room to room. In all the pictures of this woman, never did she smile.

For a moment he had a feeling of not being alone in the house. He heard laughter, or was it just the creak of an old house?

"hello??" he said, and heard only the echo of his own voice.

His pager started to vibrate, and he jumped and tripped on the carpet falling to the cold floor.

"Shit!!" he yelled as a splinter went into his thumb.

He picked himself up as he sucked on his thumb. The decision to leave the dreary house overwelmed him. He jerked at the front door handle, but the door wouldn't budge. Puzzled he tried the locks, and still the door would not move. Maybe there was another way out he thought, as he ventured about the house looking for another way out.

-------

Shadow stared at the house, noticing one lonely car out at the street.

"Are you sure this is the place?" Dwayne asks her as he breaks the silence. "I thought we were late?"

"I have the address written down right here." She says as he takes the paper away from her studying it.

He shrugs and starts to walk to the house. They stand staring at the door knocker. A lions paw that looks like it hadn't been touched in ages. Dwayne taps the knocker, and the door opens slowly with a creak. They look at each other, and Dwanye starts to walk in leaving Shadow on the porch. She shakes her head and decides it was better to follow him, and not be alone out on the porch.

"Hello?" Shadow says as she enters the house. Was this a suprise party she thought. Where were all the people.

"DON'T LET THE DOOR SHUT BEHIND YOU!!!" a voice screams from the next room.

Dwayne and Shadow scream as a figure runs past them towards the now shut door.

"AWWW SHIT!!" Puck yells. "I've been stuck in here for an hour."

"Have you tried breaking a window? Shadow asks as she fumbles with the door knob. "Whats wrong with this door??" She starts to jerk the door with all her might.

"I've tried that, believe me." Puck says as he throws another chair at the window. "It just bounces right off, not even leaving a mark." Puck looks at the two with interest. "Say, what brings you two here anyway?"

"A party." Shadow says as she walks into the next room half expecting a crowd to jump out and yell Surpise.

"Well, it doesn't look like there will be a party here anytime soon." Puck says as he watches her in the other room.

"Have you really looked for another way out??" Shadow asks as she vanishes from sight.

Puck starts to laugh and falls heavily into a dusty chair.

------

Rachel looked through the window of the old house wondering why on earth her exboyfriend had wanted to meet there. It was one of the creepiest of houses she had ever seen. She looked through the windows at the old covered furniture. She had left without telling Chris she was coming here, she hopped he wouldn't be too upset with her.

"Hello?" She said as she entered the house.

'DON'T LET THE DOOR CLOSE!!" A female voice said from somewhere in the room.

"WHAT?" Rachel yelled in suprise, as the door yanked from her hand and shut firmly. "Who's there?" she asked.

"Are you blind?" Puck says sarcasticly.

Rachel's eyes focus in the dimmly lit room, focusing in on three semiangry people.

"Did my exboyfriend send you here?" She asked nervously.

"What?" Dwayne asked her, as he played with the door knob.

"Whats wrong?" Rachel asked as she watched Dwayne at the door.

"We can't get out, you try the door." Dwayne said as Rachel took a turn with the door.

"Is this a joke?" She asked as Puck started to laugh.

"I've been in here all day. The doors won't open, and the windows won't break." Puck said as he fell back into the chair.

"YOU CAN'T GET OUT" a voice says from the stairs.

The four of them turn their attention to the stairs where a young woman stands.

"I've been trapped for so long" She starts to cry and runs off down the upstairs hallway.

Dwayne runs up the stairs and into the room the girl had ran into. The room lay empty. "She's gone." he says as the others join him.

The room is musty and dark, and contains even dustier furniture. The stone fireplace, full of trinkets and dolls from far away places.

"LOOK, an Amelia Earhart doll." Shadow says as she picks up the faded doll. "What's wrong?" She asks dwayne as she follows his gaze to the picture above the fireplace.

"That's the girl I followed up here." Dwayne said as he studied the picture.

Puck sat on one of the old chairs and surveyed the room from a sitting position.

"Look, a George Washington doll." Shadow says as the doll crumbles when she touches it.

A loud wail fills the room, and Puck falls out of the chair in fright. "WHAT WAS THAT??" he yells.

"It sounded like the girl. Shadow, don't pick up another doll. "Dwayne said as he continued to stare almost hypnotically at the picture.

"I wonder what this says." Rachel says as she touches the name plate below the picture. Every piece of hair was standing on end , a coldness had entered the room as the doll had desinigrated before. She rubbed the name plate revealing the name Sharellte, and the year 1884. "Sharlette" Rachel read aloud, as a loud sobbing came from the fireplace. The air seemed to suck from the room, leaving all gasping for air.
