Poetry Revision Strategies

Much of what we do in my classroom is based on Nancie Atwell's reading and writing workshop model.  I've borrowed heavily also from Dan Kirby, Linda Reif, Rebekah Caplan, Janet Allen, and Tom Romano in creating my high school curriculum.  The result is a reading and writing workshop model that I feel meets the needs of the individual student without compromising the demands of a Honors and Pre-AP curriculum.  Students in my classes participate in Writing Workshop every Monday and Wednesday.  Reading Workshop occurs on Tuesday and Thursday.

Listed on the left-hand side of this page are some of the writing prompts, SDT models and examples, and revision and editing handouts we've discussed this year.  The SDT link will take you to a separate SDT page which includes professional examples as well as student examples of SDT's.  This link also contains a list of all the SDT assignments to date.  The other links will take you to some of the handouts (revision and editing) and story prompts we've gone over this year.  Eventually, it will also contain a list of poetry terms (e.g. hyperbole) and poems we will be reading in this class.
