Cyber Friends

When you meet someone on line
You never know what you will find
They can be whate'er they please
and only there to joke and tease
You can feel that you're forming a lasting bond
But in the blink of an eye suddenly they're gone

You must be careful with your heart
Some will take it and tear it apart
And even though it's only text you see
It can hurt just as much as if actually
They were there saying it to your face
and not in the world of cyber space

It all depends what you're looking for
If it's just fun and games , there's that galore
And if it's only cheap delights
then well, there are those other sites

Some make it work, this I can see
maybe some day it will happen for me
But in some ways that day has come
I've made new friends and there are some
who know more about me than my own family
and seem content to let me be me

So to them all a big Thank You
for everything they say and do
They can not know what it means to me
to find a place I like to be

It's Hard *

It's hard to be a man in this day and age
when most people act like they're on a stage
They tell us it's not right to feel
Or care about that which is truly real

And so many magazines and books
say everything is based on looks
They say that it is sex that rules
and those who want love are only fools

They say, "Have fun, get all you can
but is it that that makes a man?
A string of conquests laid end to end
Can not measure up to one true friend

So many seem to feel that life's a test
of who can get more than the rest
But isn't what we really need
is someone to share our every deed?

To stand by us through thick and thin
and fill the emptiness within
Someone that we can call our own
No one was meant to stand alone

When meaninglessness seems to be all the rage
It's hard to be a man in this day and age
