-In Catie’s room-
“Hey, that’s my lipstick!” I screamed at Meg.
“Just let me borrow it. It’s the perfect shade of purple to match my dress.” Meg tells me.
“Okay fine. Just let me borrow your silver bracelet.” I told her.
“Fine, ugh!” Meg says taking her silver bracelet.
“Perfect!” I said. Soon we were ready. We were on our way downstairs.
“I can’t do this,” I said, “I can’t walk in there acting like nothing has happened in the last seven years.”
“It’s okay you don’t have to. Just be calm about it,” said Sarah.
‘I am about to walk into a room with the Backstreet Boys in it. I know most girls would be thrilled with it and would offer on of their kidneys for one of their tissues’ I thought to myself. ‘I’ve been a best friend to Brian Littrell for the last sixteen years. I was almost a girlfriend as well. I would have been if he didn’t leave to pursue the stupid singing career with the Backstreet Boys.’
I looked in the mirror, specifically at my necklace. It’s a silver locket with our picture in it. I’ve never taken it off since he gave it to me. I guess it has always given me hope that one day he’ll come back and everything would be normal again. I knew, but would never admit to myself, that it would never happen.
-Inside the room-
“Bri, you okay?” Nick asked.
“Yeah fine, just nervous about seeing her again.” Brian said.
“You sure? I have a feeling that it’s not all of it.” Nick said.
“Well, if we didn’t start the Backstreet Boys, I would have asked Catie to be my girlfriend. I still have feelings for her. I don’t know if she still feels the same. I know I hurt her by leaving like that. And I don’t know how to say I’m sorry.” Brian explained.
“Well, I have a feeling she still likes you.” Nick said and walked away.
-Outside the room-
“You ready Catie?” Megan asked.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” I said.
“Okay here we go.” Sarah said. She turned the door handle and opened the door. We all walked in. I walked in last.
“Hi Brian,” I said.
“Hi Catie,” he said back.
“Hey Nick, hey Kevin. You guys must be AJ and Howie. Hi I’m Catie,” I said, “These are my friends, Megan, Sarah, Ashley and Erin.” Soon everybody was in conversation.
‘We have to talk’ I mouthed to Brian. He came over and we sat in one corner of the room.
“You’re still wearing the necklace,” said Brian.
“Yeah, it gave me hope you would always come back,” I explained, “it’s been seven years Brian. Seven years no calls or letters. Whatever happened to the promise, we made? After you left, I kept calling for months. But never received anything back.”
“We were busy and our fame sky rocketed around the world,” he said back.
“So I heard. But you made a promise Bri, and never kept it. That hurt, a lot.”
“I know and I’m sorry but I missed you so much!”
“So have I Bri, but it hurt.”
“I still have feelings for you and I don’t know where to start. I’ve never dated anyone always hoping that I’ll find you again one day. I hope you still have the same feelings for me.” I was looking at the ground. I did this to avoid eye contact. If I looked into those piercing blue eyes, I knew I would break down and cry. He tilted my head up. I looked at him.
“I do. That’s why I’m still wearing this.” I said pointing to the necklace. At this point, I had tears running down my face. ‘Good thing I didn’t wear mascara’ I thought to myself. “Do you ever think I’ve never stopped thinking about you? Wishing you never left?” I was hysterical. I couldn’t stand being there anymore. I stood up and ran out of the room. I didn’t know where to go. I need to take some time to rest. I decided to go up to my room.
-Back in the rooom-
“Wait Catie!” Brian said. “Nick I’m going after her.”
“Okay but be careful there’s like a million fans outside the hotel just waiting to get inside.” Nick said.
