Brian swerved to miss an on-coming truck.
"Concentrate on the road" he repeated to himself over and over.
He finally pulled into the parking lot and got out of his car.
Looking up at the sign, he knew he was in the right spot.
He opened the door and stepped inside. He followed a long hallway until he got into the lobby and walked up to the front desk.
"Umm... I came for my uh... sister?" he told the secretary.
She smiled at him and got his name and handed him a stack of papers to fill out and sign.
After he finished with the papers, the secretary called someone on the phone.
"Mr Littrell is here Jo... Ok... Ok thanks."
She smiled at Brian. "Just one moment please, they'll be here."
Brian nodded at leaned on the counter, waiting.
He tiredly looked around the room, which was full of painting on the walls and green chairs, before looking at his watch.
Two o'clock.
He finally heard footsteps coming from another hallway. He turned to see the girl he hadn't seen in 16 years.
His eyes widened when he noticed the girl walking next to who he guessed was JoAnn.
Black hair falling down her back, baggy jeans, a dark green t-shirt, and the brightest blue eyes he had ever seen.
JoAnn walked up to Brian and held out her hand. "Hello Mr Littrell." she put her arm around Kyra and pulled her closer. "This is Kyra, your sister."
Brian gave her a smile, which was returned with a blank stare.
He quickly licked his lips and turned to JoAnn.
"I uh... all the papers are filled out."
The older woman smiled. "Good, then I guess you're good to go Kyra."
Kyra slung her backpack onto her back and said nothing.
JoAnn glanced at Brian. "Just give us a call if you need anything dear."
Brian nodded gratefully. He then turned to Kyra. "Ready?"
She nodded and followed him out of the building. He led her to his BMW and opened the passenger door for her.
Kyra slid in and rested her backpack on her legs as Brian shut the door and went around the front of the car to get in.
He got in and glanced at Kyra. She didn't look anything like he had imagined.
He cleared his throat. "Uh... do you have any other stuff with you?"
She shook her head without looking at him. "This is all." she said quietly.
Brian grinned. "You *do* talk!" he said jokingly.
She nodded.
Brian cleared his throat again and started up the car to a quiet drive home.
