Imposters - Part 1

Sinbad and Maeve stood on the Nomad's deck, kissing playfully. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining brightly, the sky only had a few perfectly white fluffy clouds in it, and Maeve and Sinbad were together again. They had had an awful fight a week ago, when Maeve had let her pride take over. She had called Sinbad incompetent and uneducated. Sinbad in turn, called her (without thinking of her master) a poorly trained sorceress and a controlling wench. Both had retreated to their cabins after their exchange, and neither came out until Doubar came to get them. They had still remained at a distance for a few days, but now they had resolved their differences. Neither even remembered what the fight was about.

Sinbad had been surprised a day ago, when Maeve suddenly walked up to him and kissed him. He was shocked, but returned the kiss gratefully. After the kiss, they had retreated to Sinbad's cabin (while the crew gave knowing smiles and offered congratulations). Despite what everyone on the ship thought, they hadn't done anything. They had just talked.

~~flashback to the day before, in Sinbad's cabin~~

"Maeve, why did you kiss me out on deck?" Sinbad asked, bewildered.

"I thought it was quite obvious." Maeve answered slowly.

"Oh. You have feelings for me?" Sinbad was still a little shocked.

"You're quick." Maeve answered with a playful smile.

"Well, I think you know by now I have feelings for you, too." Sinbad took Maeve's hand in his.

"That's so wonderful." Maeve was not being sarcastic, she was genuinely happy that he had confessed.

"Maeve, I'm not sure how to say this. But here goes. When you kissed me, it awakened a lot of emotions that I've had for some time now. I've always been attracted to you, but this kiss opened up another world for me. I... I think I love you Maeve."

~~flashback to present~~

"Maeve, we need to talk." Sinbad's commanding voice suddenly told her that something was wrong. She followed him meekly to his cabin so that they could be in private. He sat her down on the bed and stood before her. His tough face that said "Don't mess with me" melted into a sweeter face. He leaned down and kissed her. Sinbad stood back up and started pacing.

"Maeve, before I was ever on the Nomad, I was in a jewelry store one day. I was looking for a gift for a friend, and I happened to spot a ring. It was a very exquisite ring, and when I saw it, I knew instantly it would be for my future wife. I bought it that day." Sinbad opened a drawer, and pulled out a tiny black box. "I was kind of hoping that you'd like to wear it."

Maeve's eyes lit up. "Does this mean what I think it means?"

"Yes. My darling Maeve, my love, my inspiration, my soul, will you do the honor of marrying me?" Sinbad had knelt down before her as he held out the ring.

"I will, Sinbad!" Maeve and Sinbad stood up at the same time and embraced.

Little did they know that they were being watched.

Rumina sat in a corner, watching as her new apprentice was working on her powers. Sadelah was concentrating on Maeve and Sinbad. As they kissed, Sadelah gasped, and Rumina rushed over to see what had happened. When she saw the "lovely" sight, she shreiked with rage and flung a hairbrush at the mirror. It instantly shattered to pieces. Turok misted into the room, hearing the crash.

"Rumina, what has happened here?" Turok's face was angry, and he looked as if he were about to explode.

"Daddy," Rumina whined, "They're getting married!"

"Maeve and Sinbad? Ha! Preposterous!" Turok laughed at this and then looked back to Rumina.

"Daddy!" Rumina exclaimed, drawing the two syllable word into a four syllable word.

"Yes?" Turok answered impatiently.

"Isn't there some way to stop this?" Sadelah interjected.

"Why don't you two figure it out for yourselves?" Turok misted out of the room.

"Well, hmph. I don't know how to make them break up." Rumina pouted.

Sadelah's eyes lit up, and Rumina knew she had a plan. "Let's let them think they're getting married."

"I don't quite follow you." Rumina was interested, nonetheless.

"We can change my form, I can become Maeve's best friend from before she went on the Nomad, and then she'll ask me to be a part of the wedding. That is when I can crash it, and then you can have Sinbad all for yourself." Sadelah smiled.

"I like your way of thinking. Let's get working on it." Rumina hastily grabbed a book of spells and began looking through it.

At dinner that night, Maeve and Sinbad announced their engagement to the crew. After applause, cheers, whistles, and congratulations were voiced, Sinbad continued.

"We will need to stop at the next port to get everything needed for a wedding. The wedding will be held right here on the Nomad." Sinbad looked into Maeve's eyes. She had specifically asked for this type of wedding, and he just couldn't turn down her sweet face.

At the next port, Maeve and Sinbad left the ship arm in arm. As they strolled around town, they looked for shops to find wedding stuff. Maeve found a dress store, and went in there. Sinbad continued on his way, trying to find something to wear.

Maeve looked around, and saw two other ladies in the store. She smiled to them and kept looking. Suddenly, a short woman with long brown hair and deep brown eyes approached her.

"Maeve?" The lady asked.

"Yes? How do you know my name?" Maeve asked, startled.

"Don't you recognize me? My name is Chrystyn, remember, we were best friends before you left on the Nomad." Chrystyn smiled.

"Chrystyn?!?! Is it really you?" Maeve laughed and embraced her old friend.

"Of course it's me, silly. Who else could I be?" Chrystyn smiled to herself.

"I don't know. Wow, it's been so long since we've seen each other. How have you been?" Maeve forgot all about looking for a dress.

"I've been ok, I've missed you." Chrystyn's small smile lit up her whole face.

"Me too." Maeve's smile could have lit up the world.

"So what have you been up to?" Chrystyn asked, already knowing the answer.

"Well, since I got on the Nomad, I met this man named Sinbad. He and I are getting married. That's why I'm in here, to get a wedding dress."

"Congratulations!" Chrystyn exclaimed.

"Thank you. Would you mind helping me find a dress?" Maeve asked shyly. "There are no other girls on the ship."

"Of course I will!" Chrystyn seemed awfully eager to help Maeve out. Maeve shrugged lightly and thought nothing of it.

After two hours of trying on dress after dress, they finally found the right one. It was pure white, and it reached all the way to Maeve's feet. There was a long train on it, and it had tiny pearls sequins all over the bust area. From the waist down, it was satin. It was very comfortable. The veil was a crown-looking thing, and it hung down to right below Maeve's shoulders.

"You look gorgeous!" Chrystyn sighed.

"Thanks. I think I want this one." Maeve looked at herself in the mirror that was in the shop.

"It suits you well." Chrystyn nodded. "Too bad I won't see you wearing it at the wedding."

"Oh, umm..about that. Since there are no other women on the ship, would you like to be my maid of honor? Plus, we were so close way back when." Maeve smiled at the memories.

"I'd love to!" Chrystyn jumped up to hug Maeve as she thought, *This is too easy!*
