Jazz/Solo & Ensemble
This year's Jazz Band is made up of 4 alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones, 1 baritone saxophone, 3 trombones, 4 trumpets, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, piano, and drum set. For Christmas, we played jazz arrangements of many popular Christmas songs like: Frosty the Snowman, Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jinglebell Rock, Let It Snow, and many others. At FBA we played Mister Basket, Match Point, and Rude Dude. We recieved an Excellent rating.
1998-99 Solo and Ensemble
At the 1998-99 Solo and Ensemble, our Jazz band received an Excellent rating. We played "Just for Kicks", "Paquito", and "Straight Time". Many of our band members also performed solos or ensembles and received many Superior medals.
Gasparilla
As soon as Solo and Ensemble was over, we jumped on our bus and traveled to one of my favorite events of the whole year, the Gasparilla Night Parade in Ybor City, Florida. In 1999, we played the closer to our Western show. It was a medley of "Rawhide", "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "Ghost Riders in the Sky", and "Magnificent Seven". In 1998, we were awarded second place band in the parade for our performance of West Side Story.
